How many smokers do we have on here. I know it's horrible for you. I've been smoking for 15 years. I know it's making me worse and slowing recovery but I can't seem to quit. When I try the looping and craving gets stronger than ever.

 

Any advice for those that have quit?

in my case quitting made anxiety much less . I wasn't chasing a cigarette every time I felt uncomfortable . I did get quite strong cravings for about a month. now it's like I never smoked

I'm not proud of it or anything but I smoke.. Not a heavy smoker, but I get what you mean by the looping and the cravings. Would like to quit but it's sure not easy. Possibly harder than benzo. Good luck

It is hard to quit during withdrawal because it feels like a crutch and everyone says, ‘one thing at a time’ but I have to say, quitting drastically reduced my anxiety and I generally felt much better. I actually switched to vaping for 2 years and when I FINALLY quit that I felt so much better. It made me wish I had just quit nicotine all together a long time ago. As soon as I quit I started to feel so much better that I was able to jump.

Absolutely no judgement here, but I do recommend it! CT is the way to go in my opinion (nic, NOT Benzos!)

I read Allen Carr’s Easy Way and that helped me immensely.

Yeah, I think CT is the way to go.  I've tried slowly reducing but then just go right back to it.  I know the 3-4 days I didn't smoke my symptoms lessened.  The constant glutamate and histamine from the cigarettes aren't helping.

I agree dont quit during withdrawal if it helping you. Smoking is very hard to quit but it more of an annoyance than any real suffering. I feel so much better since I quit and yest cold turkey. I used patches for a few days but in reality I had no withdrawals at all so I binned them and continued. . Its a mind game no real physical withdrawal. It hasn't been that long and I dont even think about them any more.

i quit in 1 year and a half into withdrawal.

 

it was the best decision i ever made.

 

the first 2-3 weeks were rough. i just crawl around in the floor crying basically.

 

then things got better.

 

by 3 months i didn’t miss it at all.

 

withdrawal and life in general got so much better.

 

my theory was - benzo withdrawal is already a nightmare and going to continue you for at least another year - so how back could a few months of nicotine withdrawal be?

 

i was right. it was easy once i got through the first few weeks.

 

 

go for it. you won’t regret it after a couple months.

I 💯 agree with everything said here. ‘Withdrawal’ from nicotine is nothing compared to benzos, you can do it! I smoked about a pack a day and I felt so much better after I quit. I did CT but then I started vaping about 5 months after I quit. Dumb idea, and totally unnecessary.

I'm a smoker, have been for a very long time.  I would like to stop at some point, but I can honestly say I would have never made it to where I'm at today without it.  The early days of jumping off even til now at roughly a year off.  I feel so much better right now that i am contemplating getting off smokes in the next few weeks. For me, smoking was a distraction.  I found myself more anxious after each smoke but oddly, I found the gittery feeling from it and caffeine therapeutic...it let me know my nervous system was still alive if that makes any sense.  Occasionally, I'd smoke some pot to help on really tough days...this isn't an endorsement but it has gotten me to where I am today...close to being my old self.

Smoking... my worst addiction. Started at age 15, and only ended at age 67. The reason I finally just gave in and quit was my labs. My hematocrit and hemoglobin were above normal, an indicator that my body was trying to negate the damaged smoking does by producing too many red blood cells. The day my doc's office told me that, I went to a drug store and bought an E-cig. And I stopped smoking that day. I was surprised at how easy this was. Okay, yes, I am still addicted to nicotine. But I am no longer inhaling all those tars and smoke and God knows what.

I used Njoys. Like them okay except the cartridges are not magnetized, so they tend to fall out of the device.

Whatever...I no longer smoke cigarettes!

I quit 3 months ago,  every time I smoked my symptoms got worse, especially pain.

I used nicotine gum, I wasn't sure if the patches would make me feel worse and it was easier than I thought it would be.

I have an odd craving but for the most part I don't give the cigarettes any thoughts now.

Stopped the gum two weeks ago.

Go for it, the first 3 days are the worst.
