Tired of waking up at 3 am with no more sleep

Feel like complaining about it.

Very concerned for my health.

I’ve heard the similar tales from all.

I’m afraid my health will get more

wrecked. Tyfl

Try to relax when you find yourself awake at 3 am.  Don't get mad/upset as that only makes the chance to get back to sleep less likely.  I try to find something really mellow to do in bed.  Maybe I won't get back to sleep, but I will try to be calm and rest my body.

I listen to soft ambient music (calming to me).  I often game on my laptop for a while (a really boring game - I always win - I don't even need to try - I often doze off after a while).  I stay away from anything that might upset me (e.g. no Fox news for me).

Sometimes a 3 am snack helps me get back to sleep.

It will get better in time.  As with many things benzo-related, the more you can relax about the entire sleep issue, the better for your sleep.

Hello Badsocref,

I was reading your message and it seemed it was me who wrote it...because I do the same whenever insomnia arrives (waking up in the middle of the night).

I try to do something I like very much and try to enjoy the moment: then I go to the frig for a snack. Or I play a videogame or see a movie, etc.

At the beginning of my taper I used to get very upset and the insomnia. That was very bad, as that prevented me to go back to sleep again.

Now, whenever it happens (each day I sleep better) I try to accept it as part of my healing process.

After years of dealing with withdrawal insomnia, I finally got smart and learned a little trick to decrease the chance of not being able to fall back asleep during the wee hours of the morning once awake. If the call of the bathroom was responsible for the awakening, do NOT turn on the bathroom light to do your thing (you guys will figure out how to do this). Take it one step further and keep your eyes shut as much as possible and your mind on any remembered dreams rather than things that need to get down the next day. I used to turn on the light, look at things and think about whatever came to mind. I also often would not get back to sleep.

That’s a lot of symptoms and if I

experience all of them esp all at once

I’m gonna seek help.

That’s too much and I work f/t.

I would seek medical attention

detox etc. MMJ card  whatever.

Dr did not tell me to get off pill.

This my decision. I did put out

the topic and accept the bitter

Feedback. Ty

That is a list of possible symptoms.  It is a sure bet you won't experience all of them.  You may experience some of them and to some degree of intensity.  I hope that list didn't scare you?  That wasn't my intent.  I just wanted you and others to know that you might experience some of the listed symptoms and if you do, that is "normal."  And to avoid running to the ER like I did 4 times over a month or so.

I likely have some depression but do not want

to take AD. The fewer pills the better.

I am scared of all the psych meds

Woke up by 4 am

Started to get totally wired

Can’t rest let alone sleep

Did get hours of sleep

before this but

night before slept thru

til 5 am

and was not wired

I suspect withdrawal sx

I do get sleep but before I never got so

wired so early in am. I could rest and doze.

This is pretty normal for withdrawing from a benzodiazepine. It’s best if you can just accept that it may be this way for awhile, that way you won’t be so upset over lack of sleep. Eventually your sleep patterns will return, but remember you’ve been taking a tranquilizer...it takes awhile for the body to re-establish its sleep patterns.

Anxiety tends to be most intense early in the mornings, too. Maybe get up and have a cup of chamomile tea to relax a bit.  :smitten:

It happened again awake at 3 am

med plus melatonin

A few nights ago was able to

drift back asleep a bit but not
