Flurazepam withdrawl

Hello:

I've been prescribed Flurazepam for Insomnia for 20 years.  It has been a wonderful prescription for me.  I slep well and it also helped my axiety issues.

When Mylan Pharmaceuticals stopped making it last October I went to my Doctor who prescribed other meds like Ambien and Temazapam.  They were terrible and left me with severe withdraw symptoms.  I stayed in touch with Mylan and finally they re issued the Rx some 4 weeks ago.  I don't really think the ingredients are the same as 30MG doesn't give me sleep and I have to take .25 MG of Xanax to sleep.  I would like to get off this rollercoaster ride but no doctor I have tried really has a good answer.  I would like to share my experiences with others who are in the same situation.  Thanks

Hello Ocean Sails, Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I can see you've been on a roller coaster, I've heard from several members who say they can tell the difference between manufacturers, and while you're still getting yours from the same company, you just never know if they've changed sources or ingredients.

I would imagine too that since you experienced withdrawal symptoms, your central nervous system is highly sensitized now and it will most likely take an increase in your dose to settle things down.

We'll be happy to help you taper from the Flurazepam, please check out our  Planning Your Withdrawal (Taper Plans) to see the methods we support and when you're ready you can start a thread on the appropriate board.

You can also speak with other members about your symptoms if you'll post on the Withdrawal Support (during your taper) board.

We're glad you found us, let us know how we can help you.

I would guess that your central nervous system (cns) still wants flurazepam, which is why you're experiencing withdrawal.  You basically cold turkeyed off of the flurazepam once your script ran out.  Temazepam and Ambien won't help with the withdrawal because their half lives are shorter than flurazepam.  The only other benzo I know of with a half life similar to flurazepam is valium/diazepam.

Perhaps taking some flurazepam (15 - 20 mg), now that it's available again, will cure your withdrawal and you can taper off of flurazepam from there.  I don't know what to suggest for sleep as Xanax is also addictive.  The important thing is to get off of your physical dependency on flurazepam as it likely will stop being produced forever.  I was forced to taper off of flurazepam after it was abruptly discontinued where I live.  Pretty rotten of Mylan to abruptly stop making a med that people have a physical dependency on!  >:D

The withdrawal support link given in the previous post would be a great place to start.  Post about your situation there and see what advice people come back with.

Best wishes!!  :smitten:
