I was 20 years on Klonopin, and a few months ago switched to Valium to start a slow taper, using one of Dr. Ashton's suggested schedules.  I have now tapered off the valium (as of Tuesday, Feb 11th), just a few days ago. Since I've come off, I am having some unpleasant withdrawal symptoms, which I am surprised about because it seemed the taper was going so smoothly. I'm here to find support with others experiencing this as well..

Welcome to Benzo Buddies and congratulations on being benzo free.

 

I'm glad your taper went so smoothly but benzo withdrawal is tricky.  Just when you think you are out of the woods withdrawal symptoms can start. That doesn't mean you will have a difficult recovery, it just means your body is still adjusting to being without the valium.  At this point you are in what is called the acute phase where the symptoms can be the strongest. It's early days for you, in terms of healing.

 

I'm glad you've joined the forum because you will find support and encouragement as you progress in your recovery. I do think since your taper was pretty calm that what you feel now should ease up fairly soon.
