Jordan Peterson nearly dies in Russian detox- Opportunity for us to be heard

"Mikhaila (his daughter) said Peterson was initially prescribed the medication for anxiety several years ago but when his wife was diagnosed with cancer last year, his use increased and he became addicted. That eventually led to a medical crisis which Peterson barely survived."

 

Unfortunately, the article itself makes no distinction between dependence and addiction. How many of us "did exactly as we were told" and wound up in this mess? Others received in-hospital meds post surgery that caused a problem. We need to reach as many people as possible while this is current.

 

This is not about politics or the person's beliefs, but about the epidemic of Benzodiazepine dependence and the problems/dangers of withdrawal. Hopefully out of this man's struggle, it will bring this topic more to the forefront for the rest of the public.  We all know how horrible it is to have to justify our symptoms to the medical profession and others.

 

Please, if you choose to post elsewhere, be kind. Whatever you think of his personality, you can come beside him as a fellow brother in arms with this struggle.  Please be sure to give pertinent information about available resources such as the Ashton manual and this forum so that others may know there is somewhere to go for support. Apologies for being tardy...been having some other larger issues like Coronavirus due to friends/family living there.  I guess the idea of being courteous to others is lost on you.

50shades- No one sick...yet, but location is key as folks are in areas of high exposure. Have to be cryptic.

 

Regarding everyone's threads: I read lots of discussion amongst members, regarding JP's path and what's happened to him, but no one has mentioned taking the initiative to go outside our little circle to share with the general public resources or tales of their own journeys. That's how to use this event for good- educate others! How else do we expect them to know...we didn't know either until we found BB or Ashton, etc. out of sheer desperation. Want things to change? Then take action. (And yes, I write to authors of articles, editors, etc. about this topic whenever "news" occurs.)
