Thought I'd start a new group about these food issues and what we can learn and do about it.

Personally I am 3 months clean of benzos and lyrica and doing pretty good. However I am still suffering greatly when I have too much msg and also sugar. My worry is that every time we get these reactions to bad foods...is this delaying us ever getting to complete healing? I have a friend who is 3.5 years off and pretty much healed but gets thrown back if he eats certain foods. I'm not someone whos ever been able to overhaul my whole diet and stick to it. And I'm wondering if this is a slow way to heal. Caffeine also confuses me because a coffee in the morning seems to make me feel pretty good. I don't really have a reaction. But is this stopping the CNS from doing what it needs to do?

I recently just did a 36 hour fast as I'm wondering if our guts need to heal in order for us to get better. I'm thinking about doing a 72hour fast as its been proven that your body grows new stem cells after 3 days. I don't know. This food issue is really bugging me. Any help or input would be good.

Hi Shamo, i really don't know the answer to your question about these foods delaying healing process, I wonder about the same things, but I did want to say that i think that 36-72 hour fasting is great, or intermittent fasting, whatever you can do at this stage, i've read so much about the benefits of fasting and how it fascilitates neuroplasticity and growth of new neuron connections. I would have done it a lot more now but i've lost a lot of weight through this wd, and am really worried about losing any more, even though i still believe in benefits of fasting  even when you are really thin, but  right now all i'm able to do is intermittent fasting. Are food sensitivities the only thing that you have left so far? that NAD+ does work miracles doesn't it? Hopefully you'll be completely healed soon, wishing you the best.

When you say msg, do you mean mainly processed food and restaurant food?for do you mean also foods that a naturally high in free glutamic acid such as mushrooms and tomatoes.

I also have food sensitivities and have had them for years after ct from AD. I feel like I have been in a bad wave of the food sensitivities getting more intense right now.

Ever since I have been under alot of extra stress lately, the sensitivities seem alittle worse right now

I am doing an elimination diet also to try and pinpoint trigger foods.

So far nightshades definitely cause an increase in muscle pain and nerve pain and headaches.

I also suspect dairy is not agreeing with me too much right now too.

I am curious if anyone has noticed their sensitivities to food lessening with time. Or has anyone been able to heal their gut and if so, how? Taking supplements are out for me. I never seem to tolerate them anymore.

Also what kind of reactions do you have from the foods you are sensitive to?

Hi Shamo!

I noticed that while on Benzos withdrawal, desperation to get well make you do changes in what you eat and take that sometimes may end up being bad.

In my opinion have a balance diet if you didn't have one before the benzos and eliminating questionable foods is the way to go. Most people can live well and without adding risks with healthy conventional foods.

Supplementation is another controversial issue. In my case after reinstating due to a bad reaction to L-theanine I only take Omega 3 and Turmeric. I had them all along with no issues.

Our worst enemy is the state of mind this poisons put us thru. Monitoring ourselves all the time makes anxiety to go up and that's when we make wrong choices.

At the end of the day is time the only healer we can count on!

Regards,

Mice

I get purely a bad mental reaction now as they are my only symptoms left. The worst is from certain foods that I think have added glutamate in flavourings or whatever. But its very hit and miss. Sometimes I can eat take-out and are not too bad, but the other day I bought some roast beef with gravy and potato bake. I was in HELL for 5 hours after with extreme depression. What ever they addded in terms of flavour destroyed me. I can have sugar and not be as bad but still feel a little depressed after. A choc bar for example.

Kathy I agree. I would try and fast for 10 days or even longer if I could even though its difficult. But I don't want to turn skinny. I only weigh 75kg so I will end up at 65kg or less. Plus too many carbs makes me feel shit so I might need even be able to eat lots and put that weight back on. The NAD helped a lot to get me clean and get over those physical sx super quick. I'm going to go back soon and have more.
