How many pills will I need for my taper? And will I go into withdrawal?

Hi Guys,

I've been on a binge for the last 28 days where I used a lot of uppers and diazepam to bring me back down so I could sleep. I've been seeing a psychologist for this and this is my first relapse since June.

If been through withdrawal 2 times before but from very high doses of alprazolam and used then for a longer period. I withdrew cold turkey last time within 1 week and It was absolute hell. The problem is, when my boss finds out i've been using again my career is over.

So I need to prepare for the worst which is withdrawal so I need a taper plan and get enough pills. Because of the long lasting effects of diazepam I should know within 7 days from now if withdrawal is coming. Basically my questions are:

- i've taken 145, 10mg diazepam pills over a period of 28 days. That's about 5 pills a day average. What is the chance I will suffer from withdrawal?

- How many pills will I need for the taper? (i need to get them black market because waiting lists here are too long to get a taper plan, i've tried before)

- Is there anything I can do to prevent the possibility of withdrawal like naturally heal the bodies ability to produce GABA?

Sorry for all the questions guys but I need to take action asap as to not lose my job en remain functional.

Cheers,

IDKFA

Well, given that you’ve withdrawn with difficulty a couple of times already, the likelihood is that this will be as hard or harder. That’s the usual nature of repeated benzodiazepine withdrawals. Once the nervous system is sensitized it usually reacts pretty strongly to more withdrawals.  There’s nothing you can take to avoid withdrawal that anyone is aware of.

No one can really tell at this point how much you’ll need to taper. If you were averaging 50mg Valium daily, then my suggestion is to make a cut from 50 to 45 to start and hold it there for two weeks so the withdrawal manifests fully and you remain functional.

This isn’t going to be fast, in my opinion, if you want to stay functional and discreet on the job.

Thanks for your advice. Lets just hope for the best that withdrawal will be kind to me.

I don't know, but I thought being on a benzo was okay for a short time and your time was short.

Nevertheless, 50 mg a day to taper from per this site's guidelines (5% to 10% every 10-14 days) would take quite a while.

Check out this link for a taper.  Plug in your numbers and it will tell you how long, how many pills, etc.

Be sure to read the ReadMe at the bottom right-hand corner of whatever you choose, direct taper or liquid taper.

Oh, great tool, thanks!!

It really is; I'd be lost without it.

I think the main thing is to stop the damage and stabilize. If you are hitting your system with uppers, or even coffee then you are negating what the benzos do. Be kind to yourself, and find the lowest dose where you can manage to get through the day. Then worry about tapering.

All considered, this is where I would start..^^^

But thats just my thoughts from reading one post..

Bruce, Hi...

Its a bit hard to say, on one hand there is (recent) pretty short term use, but on the other, there is prior history, other meds, and fairly high dose use, etc.. I imagine the key will be how you respond as things unfold...

Hope all goes well...
