Stuck on "Klonopin" and need to get off

I have been on "K" since 1980. Thats 39 years. My dosage is 1MG taken as needed for panic attacks and if needed for RLS at night. I have to say, its worked all 39 years. But now im getting older (65), have had 2 heart attacks and it's time. I saw the special on CNN tonight about 15 min after taking my dose. I feel like im in a jail and need to get out. I have never tried stopping. So i will try reducing the dosage by 25% for a 4 week period followed by 3 more 25% reductions all lasting 4 weeks. If I have a problem, I might have to try micro-dosing to get off of this stuff. wish me luck.

Hi Flamestrat54  and Welcome to Benzobuddies

I am so pleased you are here, after 2 heart attacks, you’ve been through a lot.  We can help you with support and taper/withdrawal information.  Benzos need to be tapered slowly, i think a 25% reduction is too much.  In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  This is depending on how you feel, many need to taper much slower,  the goal is to remain as functional as possible whilst moving forwards.

Check out the Ashton Manual, It’s great for understanding the effect benzodiazepines have on our body.  It also provides tapering and withdrawal information.  You will find some valuable support and info on the forum.  Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

You might wish to post to the this support group:

Klonopin Klub  members will be happy to share their experience and offer advice.

You can make it. I am 62 and now 7 months benzo free. I did the pill cutting until I was hit with too big of a drop. This is when I used the liquid titration method. I have posted on my method which I used from others here on BB. Do a search of me J Stone.

You can do this....as I read just a few minutes ago a quote from Robert Frost, the only way through is out...

I am 68. I am starting month 4 off of  1-1.5 k after 17 years use. I started my taper in the same way you plan. It was too big for me and, even though I slowed down and tapered for over a year, I never stabilized enough to be functional. I cannot tell you, with certainty, that I would have had a better outcome had I started out by microtapering conservatively, but I would have liked to have known enough to try. We are in unknown territory here. The more you learn, the more you know how little actually is known. One thing that most members agree upon, is that it is harder to reverse a too fast taper, than it is to speed up if things are going well. You are making the first step toward reclaiming your life. That is the payoff, and it is worth the journey. Espy

There is no need to hurry. But no reason to take years either. I came off 4mG of Clonazepam in 11 months after 18 years of use.

I went fairly quick until I hit the wall, then I slowed down and used the liquid titration method. Worked well for me.
