On & off Clonazepam for a long time

I never heard of Benzo withdrawal until tonight, watching the CNN piece. This definitely sounds like what's happened to me as I've gone on & off Clonazepam for years. I'm completely baffled that multiple therapists (and a couple of psychiatrists) have never brought this up. I only take .5mg, so I don't know if that's enough to cause the withdrawal issues, I've definitely gone off sometimes cold turkey, not knowing that there was any issue. Then went back on myself.

Hi happierplace  Welcome to Benzobuddies

We are glad that you joined our community.  You will get much support here. Many of us arrive here, having not been informed of the addictive nature of these drugs.  Withdrawal from benzos is challenging, you will receive plenty of advice and encouragement, to help you reach your goal.  The information and support that you get here is very important whilst going through this process.

Tapering slowly is the safest and best way to withdraw.  I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides Tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

The general tapering guidelines are to cut the daily dose by between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days. You can alter the schedule according to how you are feeling.  The aim is to keep any withdrawal symptoms manageable.

We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process.  They will be willing to share their experience with you.  Feel free to ask questions so that members can respond

Welcome, Jodak77.  I'm glad you found us. I recently finished my taper. I could not have done it without the information and validation I received on this forum. Spend some time exploring the site and you will find many resources to help you taper off successfully. You will make it and it will be worth it!
