I am joining Benzo Buddies because I have been on Xanax since 1988, still experience panic attacks and do not want to take a higher dose, or add another benzo or anti-depressant. I have been taking 2mg. of the time release for about 10 years, once a day. Before that I took my dose 4 times a day. As I am still having panic attacks, have been on this medication for many years and I want to get of this merry go round, I decided to try and find others who are going through the same thing.

Hello Survivor Girl  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

We are very glad you joined our community. You are going to be okay, you can do this.  You've made a great decision to taper off these drugs!    We can help you with support, encouragement and taper/withdrawal information.  In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  It’s okay to go slower than this, whatever feels comfortable, the aim is to try to keep symptoms manageable.

I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

I'll leave you a few links:

Please take time to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice.  Go to the top of the page and select PROFILE then choose forum profile then insert drug history into the text box and remember to click change profile

Welcome aboard

Welcome, Survivor.  I'm glad you found us. I recently finished my taper. I could not have done it without the information and validation I received on this forum. Spend some time exploring the site and you will find many resources to help you taper off successfully. You will make it and it will be worth it!

Hello survivor, I've been on xanax for over 25 yrs and I found BB last summer. I was experiencing horrible anxiety before my taper. I had no idea it was bc of tolerance. After awhile your body becomes tolerant and the drug no longer works for you, it only exacerbates the symtoms you took the drug for in the first place.

I want you to know that benzo buddies saved me. I'm still tapering but the friend's I have made here and the knowledge I gained was priceless. You'll find people here truly care and understand. Navigate around and see how best BB can help you. I promise you'll find valuable information and different tapering methods and meet some genuinely good people.

Best of luck,

Trish
