I have been on  temazepam for over 8 years. I’m on 30mg which I take for sleep. I didn’t know you were only suppose to take it for only a couple of months. I want off but I don’t know how.

Hello Mazzien80!

Welcome to Benzobuddies!  Thanks for joining us.

I too took benzos for insomnia.  I stupidly did a cold-turkey withdrawal.  I'm glad you've reached out to us, and that we can give you a better withdrawal path than what I did.

We generally recommend a slow taper with reduction of no greater than 5-10% every 10-14 days.  Many people taper slower than that.  The slow reduction in dosage helps to minimize any withdrawal symptoms that may occur.  Listen to your body during withdrawal.  Be willing to adjust the speed of your reductions as your body and mind demand.

If you haven’t already done so, please take a thorough look at the Ashton Manual.  It is an authoritative guide to benzodiazepine tapering and includes sections on what to expect during withdrawal and recommended tapering rates.  The manual can be found at this link:  http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual

Here are a couple of links to forum areas that I think will be useful for you.  The first one is to the withdrawal support section.  There are a few ways to do a taper.  People in this section can share information with you about their experiences so that you can select a path that works best for your situation.  Withdrawal Support (during your taper)

Here's a link to the insomnia group:  Insomnia

Welcome, mazzien80. I'm glad you found us. I recently finished my taper. I could not have done it without the information and validation I received on this forum. Spend some time exploring the site and you will find many resources to help you taper off successfully. You will make it and it will be worth it!
