Withdrawal from xanax and klonopin

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

I am new to benzobuddies. I had been on xanax and klonopin for last 5 years for my panic disorders. I could manage my panic with their help but about 1 month ago my anxiety became totally unmanageable and I had to consult a pysciatrist who stopped my medication and prescribed new medicines. Since then i have been undergoing withdrawal and finding it to be very difficult. It's like i have to face completely different problems everyday and i don't understand what to do.

Please help.

Hello Anup!

Welcome to BenzoBuddies.  I'm glad you found us.

I'm sorry that you're finding withdrawal to be difficult, but you're not alone.  The sudden change of medications has likely thrown your poor body into a reaction that's going to take a little time to work through.  Your comment that every day seems to bring different problems definitely rings a bell.  Benzo withdrawal can bring on a myriad of withdrawal maladies.  Knowing them can give you some degree of power to fight back.

If you haven’t already done so, please take a thorough look at the Ashton Manual.  It is an authoritative guide to benzodiazepine tapering and includes sections on what to expect during withdrawal and recommended tapering rates.  The manual can be found at this link:  http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual

Since you mentioned panic disorder, here's a link to the anxiety section of the forum.  It might be a good place to share your story and read about other's experiences.  Anxiety    fwiw - I had a lot of anxiety during my withdrawal, and found a good therapist to help me get through it.

Since the switch has already been made (for you), here's a link to the post-withdrawal support group.  It's more of a group that discusses lingering symptoms after a taper (or following a change in drug regiment as you experienced).  Post-withdrawal Recovery Support
