I watched the first few minutes of the Lisa Ling special and then turned it off. I've been successfully tapering slowly for almost 2 years and first, it upset me terribly that that young man was never told to do a slow taper. I decided to turn it off because I've been having a smooth taper and I was afraid after 5 minutes that terrible things lie ahead even tho it has been going comfortably for almost 2 years. (Another half year or so and I'm done.) Now I'm just scared, though.

twitch -- there is no reason why you can't continue on your slow and smooth taper.  We tend to compare ourselves to other.  That's natural.  It's just part of the taper experience.  His story is not yours and, if that program or any program distresses you -- you are right to turn it off.  WBB

I too watched the first couple of minutes and almost had a panic attack. I was going to turn it off but figure the horse is out of the barn for us but hopefully it will save others from making the same mistakes we made (trusting but not verifying)  so I went ahead and watched it. The program also helped others around me understand what I have been going through. Very well done in the time the program had between commercials.

thank you, thank you for your calm words. I'm still kind of freaked out by what I saw but I'm really glad I  turned it off.

I've been having a panic attack since just watching the first ten minutes!!! Which is pretty ironic~

I too watched the show and wanted to turn it off but watched the rest of the show and then got freaked out about the DLMT from diazepam, I am currently doing dry cut taper, because I fear I’m gonna have to do that because it seems everyone who tapers off diazepam tors that and I can’t figure out math to save my life.  But that show was intense.  I didn’t tend to find hope.

Meems97, what is DLMT? I had turned it off before that was mentioned. I'm so sorry you were freaked out, too!!

Also, from just the little bit I saw, it seemed to deal with docs who didn't tell their patients about slow taper. (the first fella who committed suicide's doc was a jackass.) Maybe read some of the success stories here to counteract it?

I Understand DLMT to be daily liquid micro taper where you measure liquid diazepam.  Other members who are doing it could explain it better.  But it seems so much like chemistry with measuring with liquid and syringes.  It freaked me out.  I can barely count right now.

I've been doing fine just tapering down by 1/4s slowly.

I had never tried DLMT. It scares me, too. I have been using the jewelry scale and the cutting board, eXacto knives and the nail file. Been making cuts to lorazepam in 0.02mg increments like that.

I don't think doing DLMT is a requirement. I still think it can all be done with a scale :)

PLEASE EVERYONE!  Embrace your experience as yours and no one else's!  And see the experiences of others as theirs, not yours.

A sure way to make yourself freaked-out and anxious is to compare yourself to others, who seem better or worse that you.

If you compare yourself to someone doing better than yourself, you will stress-out, etc., thinking you should be where that person is at.

If you compare yourself to someone having a harder time, you will frighten yourself into thinking that experience will become yours.

****  Your best bet for getting and staying off these drugs is to reduce your stress, fear, anxiety and worry as much as possible.

Self talk can do wonders to let you be you, where you are right now.

BE GOOD TO YOURSELVES!!!!

I think of it this way. It's like we all have a horrible FLU and some get better quicker and some stay sick longer. Comparing the time is a waste of time and like you said it will just freak you out.

We all have to heal at our own bodies pace.

I too was very triggered immediately but I watched it and I felt really bad all night. It can be very scary to see what could happen because I don’t see an end in sight to this so it made me panic. I hope we all heal ❤️  I definitely wish I had tapered longer than I did  I have regrets and that makes this harder.

I remember that guy on "This Is Life", he has or had a video on youtube. He was a real nice guy trying to help others. I think if he would have educated himself, or known to, he would have been okay. I'm new here, my story is I tapered for about three months a few times in 2016 about 3 months each time, I took Xanax for 14 years along with drinking heavily every day. 6 to 10 mg of Xanax and 10 to 12 drinks per day. I was lucky because I know one person that drank with Xanax one time and died. Anyway, I've been completely clean, no medication, no drinking for 33 months and 3 weeks and I'm about 90% better, I just have a little burning of the eyes and some tinnitus but it goes away now, sometimes for 4 or 5 days. I did end up in the emergency room one time after I quit, about a month after. It was because my blood pressure went to 185 over 120, that could have been from the alcohol or medication, not sure. Good luck with your long taper, sounds like the right way to go. From what I know, you can taper as long as you want, but when you actually quit, you're more than likely going to experience some hell, I did for the first year. I made it though and now every day gets better.

I just wanted to say DLMT Is Daily Liquid Micro Taper.  I’m doing that and it is working well.  It’s not as hard as it sounds but it does require either getting a liquid version of your benzo or dissolving them yourself.  It allows you to very easily and accurately reduce your dose extremely slowly each day.  Once you find your best rate of taper, you can gradually reduce with minimal t no symptoms.  You may be able todo a similar process using a scale and shaving pills, but I find the liquid easier.

By doing very small reductions each day, you don’t get symptoms each cut like you do with cut and hold.

I've deleted your last few sentences (especially 3rd from last) in hopes no one else who was panicked by the show will see them.  It just plants it in  people's heads (including mine) big-time. Since this was a thread about being freaked out by the tv show, please don't add to the panic? Please consider removing that from your post before someone else who's already panicked sees it. thank you.

Please, everyone, if you join this thread, be extra thoughtful. It's for people who were freaked out by the show (and are in the middle of tapers) to be reassured, mostly. thanks.

Yes, it is very difficult to be triggered by something that makes us fearful.  If we can replace our fearful thoughts, in this case with "that person is not me.  He is on HIS journey. I am on MY OWN journey and no one else's" we will be less fearful.  And the fearful thoughts will spend much less time in our minds.  Telling myself this MANY times a day got me through a  rough patch a couple of months ago.

I hope this helps  you. All the best.

If I write a post, isn't it inferred that I'm writing MY story, not YOUR story? In my humble opinion when I first quit I would have hoped that someone would have wrote what maybe to expect or at least an example of that persons experience. Feels like to me if I try to sugar coat MY story that I'm not being honest with YOU or ME.

Urk, i agree with you, I've had 2 strokes caused by bwd and am still suffering with sxs at 21 months off. I don't post much as I'm always aware it may trigger some people, but that isolates me and alienates me from my truth. Sugar coating talk just makes this whole experience invalid, benzos are deadly for some people and that's the truth, i didn't see the doco but it seems to have done a reasonable job of telling it almost like it is. If more people were aware of the horror bwd can invoke there may be some progress in removing them from the planet.

:o Why people feel the need to try and censor others’ posts is beyond me. Half the reason people end up on pharmaceuticals (and alcohol etc) is that they are (mostly unconsciously) trying to avoid facing up to reality/their emotions. Sorry if that triggers anybody.....just another opinion.
