Clonazepam weakness?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am on Clonazepam now which does help ease some of severe muscle causing fracture for a couple of hours but where muscles have become rigid from previous WD when take it the muscles and joints collapse completely - so spinal joints collapse in wrong direction so vertebra get forced forward towards cord and muscles around surgery site collapse and cause burning sciatica down legs but without it everything is getting crushed tighether. Literally feel all muscles contract as dose wears off and can feel specific areas in spine contracting and forcing vertebra together and out.

Did anyone else get severe weakness on Clonazepam?

Yes. I have most weakness in my thighs a soreness. The symptoms last for a good month and then I just feel shaky "jelly leg". Spasms are coming back with a vengeance in my QL and Lower Spinea Erector.

I will be sitting on the couch and all of a sudden my leg muscles relax...I didn't even feel them tense up!?

I have increased foods containing magnesium and potassium. I try to get a massage when I can. And I do stretches.

Hope you feel better

The weakness is happening where my muscles went completely rigid and contracted in last taper.

As dose wears off it all contracts up again. Can feel muscles shortening and pulling vertebra together and out of place, neck pulling back, jaw tighten etc.

The weakness only lasts a couple of hours while to clon dose us at peak but all muscles are weak anyway as well as being rigid at same time.

Getting dystonic stuff back as well.

Hmm...I had 7 tumors removed from spine in 2013. I was already on Klonopin. Since tapering I feel scar tissue pain.

I also have Fibro, myofascial pain syndrome, Degenerative Disc Disease and Facet Joint Degeneration. I've just come to live with back pain. I cycle quite a bit (not a hunched over pro cycle bike) but one that is has been modified so I sit straight up. I know that is helping with a lot of my pain. And I just grin and bear the leg pain and weakness.

I had jaw pain when I tapered in July and I have a slipped disc in my neck. I see a chiropractor and told him my jaw was hurting. He did something and I have never had jaw issues since.

It sounds painful. Are you seeing a PT or Chiropractor or anybody for your discomfort?

I just know that if klonopin is doing this to me, then getting off it should make things a whole lot better.

I have seen loads of ppl.

My whole upper back went rigid after surgery at L5/S1 and in 20 years never been able to find a solution.

Like you have DDD and facet joint degeneration, osteophytes through whole spine and areas where vertebra have fused in wrong position.

Have hypermobility diagnosis and problem holding head up on neck started in 1996 and got told had ME/CFS.

The tightness and weakness for me started before Benzos but tightness unbearable in WD and tried every possible muscle relaxant and reinstating etc and now so sensitised even baby aspirin is causing horrific side effects.

I think have failed back surgery syndrome that has been why not been able to sit without great effort for 20 years - not because of pain but because of instability and despite every effort never been able to get muscles strong on diazepam but without it literally bowing spine out.

Massage, stretching etc makes it all seize up more.

Trying myofascial release and osteopath but nobody can adjust anything as areas that need adjusting are where fused bits are and bits that collapse are too flat- vertebra pushing forward, rather than back.

Can’t sit on exercise bike because have problems in buttocks and sciatica sinc WD.

I should ne er have tried to get off of diazepam. It was helping me - at least I could lie down in relative comfort. Now no position is bearable even on the Clonazepam that only been taking a couple of more nths.

Was on 10 mgs diazepam for 20 years. No tolerence de, never increased dose.

Nobody knows what is going to happen in the end of this tapering. Some days I refer to that quote "Nothing is ever easy..." and then I add "But it shouldn't be this damn hard!"

I'm sorry you are in such pain. Back pain is the absolute worse (in my opinion). I really wish I could offer something but I know in my despair no suggestion worked.

I did it all, like you.

I tried Yoga, Palates, Walking, Swimming, Water aerobics, I just tried it all...and by luck I stumbled into biking and it worked.

Fusion of the back is something I have no information about. I know people who've had it done, and had to have other surgeries to correct the first one. And they still hurt. So I know you are in so much pain. I'm sorry.

I can be an ear for you to talk to... :-\

I can relate to the horrible muscle spasms, weakness and fatigued muscles. 4 years ago I was on that strong muscle relaxer Soma and I was on oxycodone but I was not living. So I quit those meds and got to my massage therapist and chiropractor weekly.

I was off 4.5 months before first reinstatement and contracture and dystonia got so bad Neuro put me on Baclofen which was hell and then reinstated which helped muscles but got horrific paradoxical reactions. The dystonia got so bad my diaphragm got involved but it all revolves around area in mid back that seized up after surgery and made whole of upper back, shoulders and neck go rigid and ne er been able to sort,

Given a lot of it is the stuff I was put on it for in first place I don’t see a way out but the WDs have made everything much much worse.

Wherever muscle attaches to bone seems to have gripped on too hard and turned to fibrotic gristle that now can’t let go.

I am trying everything I can.

During first taper did yoga, Pilates and walked but ended up in contracted dystonic hell.

It is literally crushing spine lengthwise.

So what are you hoping to do? Continue tapering? Slowing down? Or hold?

I've been holding for 3 months now still going to hold another 2 months.

I had really bad vertigo this past Saturday. I've never experienced such violent spinning. I googled Fosters Half-somersault maneuver, did it and it went away. I don't know if it taper related. So if it is related I can only hope it will stop when I am finally benzo free. But it could be age related. No way to know.

I know doctors give people benzos for vertigo, so maybe?? I just didn't realize all the "off-label" stuff people are put on benzos for. And now that I taper I am experiencing the off-label crap. I thought it was just for Panic Disorder and anxiety.

I wish a BB with your type of situation would chime in. I know you're not the only one with back surgery related pain and dystonia.
