Getting off clonazepam

Recommended Posts

Hey, I've been taking clonazepam/Klonopin unprescribed for around six months. I'm currently up to taking around 5/6mg per day.

I realised I've made a terribly stupid decision in doing this, but due to personal issues in life this drug seemed to be a "miracle cure" that made me forget about all my worries and made me a more confident person in general.

I've now realised that I'm not getting the same effect I used to from the drug anyway, and after reading up more about benzos I have made the decision to taper off them and stop using them.

I've heard the horror stories of people having multiple year dependencies on benzos and, I'm glad I came to my senses right now and I want to nip it in the bud before I become one of them.

I want to find advice about coming off benzos and read success stories to make me feel better about the process.

Hi  nfrockwell  Welcome to Benzobuddies

You've come to the right place for support and information related to tapering benzodiazepines. I suggest you do some research first before you decide on a taper plan.  We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process. Feel free to ask questions so that members can respond.

For tapering advice its generally recommended that you cut your daily dose by between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days according to how you are feeling.  Whatever feels comfortable The aim is to try and keep any symptoms manageable.

The  Ashton Manual  is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides Tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

Here are some helpful links:
