I love this family. Someone commented on the facebook about his honesty without ego. I thought that was perfect.

Wow!!  That's an actual doctor who said that stuff.  I'm truly bowled over right now.

Thank you to BIC for working hard to get the attention of Lisa Ling. I'm eager to watch her documentary Sunday evening. This article by Dr. Song so well represents the current problem with benzodiazepines. More and more people are speaking the truth about the potential dangers of these drugs. I am grateful and  hopeful.

Wow.  Wonder how his father in law got off them.  Seems he is now all a-ok!!

Great article. I saw Lisa Ling's husband is a radiation oncologist elsewhere and was very pleased to see that.

It can't get any better than that....a journalist whose husband is a doctor.

It's sad to read what happened to Lisa's father. I hope he is recovering well. It's clear from the article that it has been a rough ride for her father.

It is so frustrating to see this happening to people...and for so long. Hopefully things will change sooner than later. It's about time...

.....maybe I can finally have that long overdue conversation with my doctor. I just haven't been comfortable enough to tell him the WHOLE story. I really doubt I will ever have that conversation...this epidemic has been so well disguised.

It is so complex...and the article by Lisa's husband clarifies his own lack of understanding as regards the potential of benzodiazepines....and he is a doctor. A humble doctor at that. :)

What a great article - and from a bonafide doctor!!!

I'm bowled over by what this family has done. It couldn't be any better than this: Lisa Ling, an investigative journalist who searches out the truth WITHOUT sensationalism; her husband who is an actual doctor and has insight as to how other doctors are acting when it comes to benzos; and Lisa's father, who went through hell with Klonopin and who knows what other drugs.

I have come to strongly believe that there needs to be far better training in medical school and residency on the risks, benefits, and proper usage of benzodiazepines like we have finally begun to see inplemented for Opioids. Physicians need to understand that this class of drugs was never intended for chronic use and in doing so, need to be trained how to properly wean patients off. And patients should look at avoiding this class of drugs as much as possible and look at other natural options such as Cannabis instead for sleep. If the medical community does not educate itself we stand the risk of failing to do no harm.

Excellent! It's amazing to see such a clearly-written discussion of the benzodiazepine issue by an MD. Kudos to him, and, of course, to Lisa Ling!
