Having been scarred deeply by Benzos and continuing to feel their effects, I am glad to see that at least the conversation is beginning to happen more publicly.  Check out this article and the upcoming tv special:  https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/04/health/benzodiazepines-this-is-life-with-lisa-ling/index.html

Hi,

This is being discussed extensively in the "Benzos in the News" forum:

http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?board=74.0

Check it out.

I just watched the special. I feel triggered but I’m really hoping things start to change with the prescribing of this drug.

I just missed it, how can I watch this after now that it’s aired?

Wow, I can't believe they dedicated the entire show to Benzos and got it mostly right.  Like another mentioned, it triggered me to tears at times, but I'm so thankful that the discussion is finally happening on a national level. What a bittersweet hour of television. My wife and I sat on the couch alternating between holding back tears and nodding in agreement.

So many ads on Ling's production it was hard to find any coherency.  Really came up short IMHO but better than the silence the subject has received up until now.  Pharma may have a hold on CNN, BTW which would explain the equivocal feel of the piece and the complete absence of medical info on what these drugs are doing to the brain and nervous system (GABA A receptors and down regulating, etc..

I am so sorry for those who may be triggered by this program.  After thinking a bit about it I have become pretty distressed myself by the memories the program elicited.    My gratitude to Benzobuddies cannot be measured.  Love, WBB

You’re blessed to have someone watching it with you wanting to learn. I wish I could make all my friends and family want to watch this. Only my sister is going to watch. I watched this and it made me very very anxious. I am afraid because I tapered fast and I’m only almost 5 months off.  I’m scared the mental symptoms will continue to get worse. There is no controlling this and it instilled a lot of fear hearing of the suicides and everything. I’m glad awareness is being brought to it though. The whole time I just kept thinking I know if someone “normal” was watching this they would think “man that sucks” but there are no words to describe this experience. Unfortunately nothing can really show how dark this is.

I had to watch the show alone as I live alone.  It is almost impossible to get family or friends involved, and even then they don't know what they can do to help.  That is the only response I ever get.

Benzos have really isolated me from the world.  Seeing this on TV made it feel much more real.  It was good to see the publicity but scary at the same time.

I think the show scratched the surface on Benzos, but so much more needs to be communicated.  Someone today is being prescribed them, and they will be sick in months from now.  It is very sad.

It’s on Hulu

Penny, are you sure it's on Hulu? I just went on there and couldn't find it.... Anyone else know where or how I can see this episode?

70 new people registered for BB in Introductions today, October 7, after the Lisa Ling documentary aired. And the day has barely begun.

Perhaps members can help the team by being a bit more active on the forum for awhile to answer questions they see in posts.

The team and Colin are on top of Introductions, responding quickly and that’s great.

Good luck to the team!

i watched it - it was pretty weak but at least she had the courage to address it.  i believe it will air again next sunday on CNN because i noticed that the episode she aired the previous sunday immediately followed last nights episode so in theory next week the 10-11pm show will be new and the 11-12pm time slot will be a re-run of the benzo episode .

my family watched it - they all thought i had had a nervous breakdown and didn't necessarily want to believe it was the meds-  they all apologized to me today.  i am fully healed and thriving now - haven't seen a doctor in 2 yrs..... life is good and it will be again if people can stay the course and get off these meds despite how bad things get... i nearly took my life 3 times but thank god i didn't as i have such a full and amazing life now....

Yes I looked it up. That’s weird. It did say the episode was locked because my subscription didn’t include it though. I’m not sure how else to watch it but if anyone else knows please let us know.

After watching this documentary, I'm starting to understand how severe my symptoms have been since quitting c/t in March of 2018. The way the woman who is tapering described it was perfect. She said she had something in the back of her head telling her to get a knife and end it. I had that for like 12-14 months. Now I'm dealing with different mental symptoms that are almost worse and just as debilitating. I really regret not tapering from the .25 milligrams of Klonopin. I could have kept the symptoms at bay and not had such a bad withdrawal had I known.

Overall, I thought the special was good and I was able to convince of number of friends and family to watch it.

Yeah, you have to add the "Live TV" option to watch it on Hulu.
