Anxious guy scared to come off Klonopin

Hello, I've been on Klonopin since May 2014.  I was prescribed 0.5 mg, 3 times per day for anxiety.  At first, it seemed to help at keeping me calm but by no means did it solve my problems. My general worries about life and my future were/are still there.  I have also struggled with drinking issues which has worsened my anxiety which in turn has made me increase my dose of Klonopin.  I got sober from alcohol for 3 months in late 2015 but then I realized that I was dependent on Klonopin.  I realized it when I would feel unwell in the mornings before I would take my Klonopin.  The mornings are always the worse because I seem to suffer from withdrawal from the previous night's dose.  At this point, I take 3 mg daily but I want to get off it.  I'm tired of waking up anxious and sick.  I'm tired of being scared that my doctors will discontinue it cold turkey as it has happened before.  I just don't know how I will be able to do so since I seem to suffer from withdrawal even while on the Klonopin!  I also find that it has affected my memory and concentration.  I used to be sharp as tack and remember everything.  Now I sometimes struggle to read a paragraph or follow a conversation or remember recent events. I find that doctors don't seem to recognize how severe withdrawal can be and then prescribe other medications that make me feel awful.  I also struggle with severe anxiety and worry about everything.  I'm 36, unemployed, and live with my parents.

First, your going to be ok. The fear of being cut off is very common, by the way. Please start learning coping techniques, they will help tremendously. We have them here, there are a few very good ones on YouTube. Additionally, we have links on tapering, and information sheets that will provide the education you need to understand why things are happening, and see that these sensations are completely normal. Learn as much as you canbefore starting your taper. You can then start on a plan that you feel is best for you.

"What is happening in your brain," is a wonderful place to start your self education. It explains why we experience all the things we do, and that they are all signs of healing.
