Hello Willpowerby god,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! Wow, that was an extremely fast taper. To be honest, there are those who can tolerate such a quick taper. How are you feeling now?

Normally after such long term use, such as yours, a slow taper is recommended to help minimize withdrawal symptoms.

We'll certainly offer you support and encouragement as you recover. You are not the first person who has gone through a cold turkey or rapid withdrawal.  Right now you are still in what is called the acute phase of withdrawal, with time, things will ease up.

I'll give you a link to the Post Withdrawal Recovery Board where you can post and receive feedback from members.

Let us know how you are doing and how we can help. We understand what you are experiencing.

Withdrawal has been rough!  Having a lot of neuropathic pain in hands, feet, mouth, hips and back burning. Is this all normal? It’s like my nervous system has been ruined by Xanax. Have you heard of neurotoxicity? I’m afraid I may have it. My bladder and stomach don’t relay messages to my brain. I don’t get hungry, thirsty, tired, or get the urge to urinate.

Yes, I had all of this in acute. It felt like all of my body fluids had been replaced with gasoline. My pee, tears, saliva, stomach, arms and legs felt like acid burning. I had nausea and could not throw up. My throat muscles just didn’t work in either direction. Swallowing was tough too. At 8 months off I don’t have any of that anymore. About a month ago it all came back for like five minutes. It scared the hell out of me but it went away quick and hasn’t been back.

It feels like your entire nervous system is damaged because that is exactly what this is. It is not withdrawal like other drugs. You don’t crave Xanax. There is no addiction. It is dependency. It is brain and nerve damage. It heals. Hang in there. Read up. Things I have learned that are pretty consistent across the board:

Avoid while healing:

Antibiotics - fluroquinilones, flagyl, penicillins

Supplements - b vitamins, vit d, magnesium

Alcohol
