VIDEO: What If Aging Wasn't Inevitable? The Quest To Slow And Even Reverse Aging

https://www.npr.org/2019/09/25/717487451/video-what-if-aging-wasnt-inevitable-the-quest-to-slow-and-even-reverse-aging

This story was updated on Oct. 3, 2019 to include the Morning Edition audio.

"Scientists are better understanding why we age — and they're also better explaining the cellular changes that lead our bodies and brains to decline.

This research has led people like David Sinclair, a geneticist at Harvard Medical School, and Peter Attia, a longevity doctor and oncologist, to challenge the conventional wisdom that aging is inevitable.

Sinclair believes the humans of the future will live decades longer than we do now, thanks to biological and technological interventions that are already being discovered.

In short: Better understanding the mechanisms of aging has led to promising treatments to slow, stop and even reverse the symptoms of growing old. And turning back the clock this way isn't just about a longer life span; it's about extending healthy, vital years. Could pills that mimic the positive benefits of exercise, at least in mice, be effective for humans? And what does this portend for the future, if we will all live decades longer?"

Personally, I've seen & done almost everything I've ever wanted to do but, I've had plenty of bad & painful experiences along the way. I don't fear death but, I don't look forward to unnecessary pain & suffering that I've seen which often accompanies it.

I guess I've been lucky to have been able to live a full and rewarding life and I'm not in search of a pill or any other thing to extend my life. However, I would not mind some assistance in improving the symptoms of the inevitable ending stages of life.  (Just my opinion).

I think I would be game for this. I mean, I lost so many years to being under the negative an debilitating influence of psych meds that I desire more (healthy) years to take advantage of my time on this planet. Do the things I never got to do. As I went through acute withdrawal I was overcome with impending doom and fear of death and aging. It still haunts me now. I want to be healthy as long as possible.

The flipside is I do not want to take more pills and certainly not an experimental one! I've been a guinea pig long enough.

Plus, if we don't aggressively tackle the existential threat of climate change this planet will be uninhabitable to us humans. We won't even be here and with our absence, the the planet can heal itself. And then a new cycle continues!

Its an interesting concept to consider though...

Good grief. I can't think of a worse fate. Years longer to contemplate the inevitable disappointments, disillusionments, sadness, and regrets that life brings? I'll pass on that pill.

 Yeah me too but, I believe the current research and huge investments being made in Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+ & NADH) compounds point toward the likelihood that these and related substances will eventually make their way into FDA approved pharmaceuticals rather than their current position as supplements.
