Can someone explain agoraphobia and why it happens? I’m 17 mitnhsbout and still have it. Being out is complete sensory overload, makes me panic, brain can’t process everything and it’s all too much.

Can someone explain agoraphobia and why it happens? I’m 17 mitnhsbout and still have it. Being out is complete sensory overload, makes me panic, brain can’t process everything and it’s all too much.

 

You basically just answered your own question. You get sensory overload, so to avoid that, you stay inside. For awhile there whenever I went into places like Rite Aid (a pharmacy) or a store that was loud and brightly lit, I would get agitated. I would stay in the house with the blinds drawn and earplugs in.

 

 

Description of benzos that made me understand:

 

They do not work primarily as sedatives, but they reduce the strength of incoming sensory stimuli: the effect is that the world around you seems to become more tranquil.

MANY of us suffer/suffered with agoraphobia.  Rather than open up a new thread on agoraphobia, type it in the search engine.  You’ll see many responses.  Your question above is too general to answer.  You would be better off googling agoraphobia to answer general questions about it.

I have monophobia when out. Slightly different than agoraphobia since I can go anywhere as long as my family is with me. But I think it's in the same category. I cannot walk outside my hOuse for more than a block by myself.
