do you think we're healing while tapering or only when we stop the "medicine" completely?

This question has come up quite often, I think because of a misquote of Ashton. She says "full" healing cannot begin until you are off the medicine, not that we don't heal as we taper. In fact, the whole premise of tapering is that it makes life more tolerable, which can only relate to healing as we go along. That said, we may encounter particularly difficult points which make us feel that we are not healing at all. We have to remember that our bodies are chemically dependent and breaking that dependency is a struggle (both psychologically and physically).

Yes, I truly believe we heal in taper. Otherwise, we could all just cold turkey and it should be the same result as those who taper. If you cut at a rate where your CNS can keep up (many of us cut slower than Ashton) I do believe we are slowly upregulating those GABA receptors. I agree that Ashton meant "full" healing doesn't occur until we're off because we're still taking the med, but some healing is going on in taper. This is the reason for a taper. Have confidence that your taper will help you in the long run. ❤

Agree with Fighterk.

 

Each little bit we remove allows for receptors to upregulate.  It mightn't feel very good, but it's upregualting and that's our mission.
