Benzo journey and tapering

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm joining the forum to share and learn about the process of benzo tapering. I have started my taper and so far so good, but it is just the beginning and I know far to well how hard it is going to get.

I have been on approx 2 MG of klonopin each day for 5 years. During these 5 years I both upped my dosage and lowered it (I have not been smart about it).

I want to stop because I want to be in control over my own health, I want to control the medication instead of the medication controlling me. I want to feel everything again and not hide behind chemicals even.

I started my taper 1 month ago going from 2 MG to 1,75 MG Klonopin. Yesterday I lowered my dosage to 1,50 MG. I take the drug 3 times a day. The rapid taper this first month is not what I have in mind. I am pushing myself a bit to gain momentum and too feel progress but I will now start a much slower taper. I accept that the time it takes for me to be of them is unknown (months, years...).

My last attempt got me down to 0,60 MG/day of Klonopin. At the time a lot of stressful events came into my life. In addition I have tapered to fast. This will not happen this time.

I plan to stick to Klonopin as that is what my body is used to. But in order to taper properly I assume water titration or something similar is needed.

Hi OKELM  and Welcome to Benzobuddies

I am glad you found us.  Tapering slowly is the safest and best way to withdraw from benzodiazepines.  Congratulations on making the decision to start tapering!  We can help you with support and taper/withdrawal information.

In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  This is depending on how you feel.  If symptoms get too much then you might decide to cut less,  the goal is to remain as functional as possible whilst moving forwards.

Check out the Ashton Manual, It’s great for understanding the effect benzodiazepines have on our body.  It also provides tapering and withdrawal information.  You will find some valuable support and info on the forum.  Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

You might wish to post to the this support group,

Klonopin Klub  members will be happy to share their experience and offer advice.

I'll leave you a few links:

Titration Taper Plans  You should see some stickie threads at the top of the board, with information you might find useful.

When you can, please add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice.  Go to the top of the page and select PROFILE then choose forum profile then insert drug history into the text box and remember to click change profile

Welcome aboard
