I know I’ve seem a lot of people ask others that have healed when the cognitive functioning improved, so thought I’d let you know that mine is starting to get notably better at 13-14 months off. The first several months I couldn’t give someone my phone number and had difficulty reading children’s books to my kid, words got mixed up coming out of my mouth and had a hard time following a sentence. I couldn’t add a simple tip to a dinner bill or other basic tasks. All I could do was put jigsaw puzzles together. Now, mental math is coming back, I’m back into novels, and starting to function better in my job which requires a high level of mental acuity. This is not my job, lol, but you know when someone starts to give you a phone number and you have to pick up a pen and you start writing the beginning of the phone number as they are finishing it? You have to be able to listen to numbers and hold them in your mind while writing different numbers down, it takes more working memory than people give the task credit for. Anyways, I realized I was doing that the other day and gave myself a much needed mental congratulatory pat on the shoulder. It gets better, just hang in there.

I remember I was the same way the first 9 or 10 months. It is so much better now except during a wave, but that's okay. Congratulations!

Thanks for the re-assurance, ICAN. I'm about 14-15 months out as well and am still struggling (albeit less so than before) with cognitive issues and muscular pain. Glad to hear your situation is improving.

Congrats ICAN, that's great news. I've had the same problem with cognition... trying to write or edit has been infuriating. That seems to be getting better now with me also. Slow going...

Nice to read such an encouraging post. My experience was the same.

At one point I needed fingers and toes to do simple addition.  No kidding.

One day I found myself explaining addition and subtraction of mixed fractions to a fourth grader and realized things were much improved!

Thanks ICAN.  Gives me courage to continue.

My daughter had to calculate a simple saving of $1 at the supermarket last week.  Just couldn't  do the figuring.  She thought it was funny, I didn't.  :)

I could not remember phone numbers even before BWD! LOL

ICAN, so glad that you are getting better! It's very encouraging.

AWESOME ICAN! I just have to add that during the first 3 months of withdrawal that I would have to ASK if I had taken a bath that day because I simply could not remember.  Then I had the same issues with memory recall to a lesser degree and still suffer in waves but the progress is AMAZING. I just planned a trip to Texas and have no mental fatigue at all.

Exactly this. I had to write notes to myself to remember when I did certain things. Gcal was my best friend...
