newbie after 19 years

I starting taking flurazepam about 19 years ago after a major surgery that caused me sleepless and some anxiety.  No one ever advised me to get off of it. Aside from wanting to be free of this drug, I discovered that it is increasingly difficult to even fill a prescription for this medication. My personal doctor suggested I switch to Temazepam as a less damaging drug, and he expected the transition to be easy, but it wasn't after about 2 weeks. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do.

Hi kickthis.  Glad you're here for support.

Temazepam is a benzodiazepine, too. Maybe he didn't prescribe an equivalent dose and that's why you're having problems. Flurazepam may have a much longer half-life so you may not have felt the full impact of the crossover for a couple of weeks.  Hard to say.

Here's a link to General Taper Plans

I would definitely give a look to The Ashton Manual, which is a comprehensive and highly regarded free online resource about benzodiazepine use, withdrawal and recovery.

Other members replying to your posts need to know where you are in the process, so here’s how to add your benzodiazepine information automatically to your posts: go to Profile, then Forum Profile, write your pertinent info (benzodiazepine, dose, taper history) in the text box and save. Thanks! Let us know if you need help with this.

Take care,

Challis
