Wake up jittery, not sleeping restfully like used to

Hello,

I am new to the board. I have been on xanax for over 20 years. I have stayed at about 1 to 1.5 mg a day.

I tried to lower the amount I take at bedtime (just by a little) and this is what is happening:

one night woke up pacing room, felt like I was having a panic attack. did not go away until I took more.

A few times this week I wake up every few hours. Last night woke up feeling the jittery feeling again.

Felt all morning until I took a .25 and it relieved somewhat.

I used to drink coffee in the morning but now I'm afraid to because I think it will increase the nervousness.

Does this sound familiar?

Can anyone relate?

Any advice?

Also, should I find a psychiatrist rather than dealing with my family doctor for this medication stuff?

Thanks for your help.

Same happend to me and it still happens every time i cut too fast.

It takes time some nights I don't sleep at all for about 4 days cant even nap.... then when my body catches up with the dose reduction i feel better never great but better.

Hope that helps...

I use my family doctor who really do not care or believe in withdrawls.... I just keep getting the perscription till i am off of this horrible medication.
