Low dose Xanax insomnia

Good morning, after almost 30 years clean and sober, started taking opoids, stopping 6 weeks ago. But benzos for the past 5 years. Off Ambien also 6 weeks but Xanax continues at low dosage. .5 a day mostly for sleep to help with insomnia. I am certain that benzos are only helpful for brief periods then the physical need is the only reason we take them. I intend to return to the drug free state which permitted me to live a full life. Now taking. .25 Xanax but still sleep only in fits and starts. Even though the dose is low, I'm dependent and must get free. Thanks.

Hi fortiradici  Welcome to Benzobuddies

You've come to a great place for support and information related to tapering benzodiazepines.  I suggest you do some research first before you decide on a taper plan.  We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process. Feel free to ask questions so that members can respond.

The generally accepted taper rate is 5-10%, every 10 to 14 days.  The rate can be adjusted to meet your needs.  Tapering slowly can help keep withdrawal symptoms manageable. The  Ashton Manual , is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides tapering and withdrawal information.

Here are a couple of useful links:

We do have a dedicated board dealing with insomnia, I'll give you a link to it so you can connect with others who can offer some ideas and help.

You might like to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice.  Go to the top of the page and select PROFILE then choose forum profile then insert drug history into the text box and remember to click change profile

Welcome aboard
