Rescue dose

OMG don't do it. You are so close to a year. I agree. All you can do with w/d is distract sometimes. I hate watching tv but when its really bad thats all I can do. Just watch the most mindless stuff or half watch. Sometimes showering helps reset me a bit.

Keep in mind that the character of panic and fear is to make you wish there would be a quick solution. If not, it would not be fear/anxiety.

This has helped me a lot. Whenever I freaked out I told myself "panic HAS to be like that" or "well, this is anxiety or panic - we know that it has to be like that, but it will pass again and then I will feel better".

It takes the pressure out of the moment. Cause in these moments we forget that we are still having options. Fear makes us think we NEED to do something right now but in reality you do not need to react, not in withdrawal. You may sit it out, distract, tell the fear to f++ off, do something paradoxic.. there are many other reactions - and in the end the panic is gone.

Rescue doses are the opposite!

Rescue doses rob you, so you would run out of options, cause the only options you end to have is: a pill.

That is why I would say, nope. No rescue dosage. The expression "rescue" "dose"itself is nonsense. one dosage does not rescue you, it makes things turn around in your brain again. Makes you helpless. But you are not. You are strong.

Thank you

Ativan is a special devil, but next year things will look different. The only thing you can do is to adapt to this over-all-pain and fear. Just surrender and keep living and enjoy the moments with your kids. And with time it gets easier.

I like to soak in the bath when it’s really bad but I’m here with the kids alone and can’t do that hope the wife gets home sooooon!

How old are your kids? While they are overstimulating and certainly can make anxiety worse, I find that involving myself in play and interaction with them is very distracting (3 and 6 months) Trying to connect, be PRESENT, not on BB talking about anxiety and rescue doses.  Give them everything you have, it works.

Wow!  Great advice ICAN!

This forum becomes a “second home” to members.  It shouldn’t take the place of playtime with your kids and family.  I know it’s hard.  They have no idea that we may have a smile on our face, but we feel our bodies churning in agitation.  The point is we can “get through” playtime and feel better for having engaged with our kids, or we can skulk around this forum sharing horror stories.  My family is a great distraction.  I sometimes feel I’m not really “there” with them, but just having their warmth and affection touch me is good enough.

Yes that’s what I do now to. Sometimes it seems it’s never going to stop.

My anxiety was the worst when I had interdose withdrawal. I would get slapped awake from a cortisol surge at 3am and go into the bathroom. I'd fill the sink with ice and then with water. Then I'd plunge my head under water and hold it there and slowly count to thirty. Then plunge my face under again and count again to thirty. Then a third time.

I learned that in a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) class. It works when things get really intense. Try it out.
