Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Symposium

[GA...]

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow survivors.  I just wanted to let you all know there is going to be a Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Symposium coming up shortly.  More information can be found via this link https://youtu.be/dlLgO7r1znM.  The Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Symposium is being held at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ, Monday September 16 Noon - 6:00 pm.  This is a NEMA Research Inc. sponsored seminar on the management of benzodiazepine and poly-substance withdrawal with an emphasis on the new basic science perspective and what to know to enhance your professional practice. Thank you for your interest in what is to some extent an acknowledgement from the medical community that what we are suffering is becoming more understood and recognised.

All the best to everyone from Richard

Thank you for the positive replies.  I will get in touch with the organisers and main speakers and ask for more information and if they can provide us with a video, audio or even just a transcript or slide show of what was discussed.  Here is a link to the University web page where you can get more information and see who the speakers are: https://medicine.arizona.edu/benzodiazepine-withdrawal-symposium.

Hopefully they will be happy to help us.

All the best from Richard

Anyone know anything about the presenters? I’m glad this is happening, though in the world of such conferences and symposia this would be astonishingly small, if it weren’t so utterly predictable for our condition. Still, good on them!

thanks lapis. I'm glad they have spots for a couple of "patients." That could be powerful. Lot of grinning white dudes; hopefully they know something. I read a paper by Raffa and Pergolizzi where they basically said "we don't know what the hell these drugs are doing, so maybe we should stop using them so much." Which is nice in one sense, but so sad in the sense that we still don't know so much.

On a side note: Here's the schedule from a 2017 meeting of The International Benzodiazepine Symposium. Some REALLY interesting titles, and good participation. I want to follow up with a few of the speakers. I gather this grew into The Alliance for Benzodiazepine Best Practices.

".....with an emphasis on the new basic science perspective and what to know to enhance your professional practice."

Nothing new about the "science perspective"..... the "science" has been out there since the 60s and they have chosen to ignore it.

Best way to enhance your "profession" is to educate yourself about the dangers of prescribing psychotropic drugs ....educate your patients about the dangers of taking them ......quit lying to your patients..... and get informed consent.

I've watched a few videos featuring Dr. Steven Wright, and I've been very impressed. If you have some time, it might be worthwhile for you to see what he has to say. It's not only what he has to say, but also how he says it. He comes across as being sincere, intelligent and knowledgeable, but also compassionate. For me, these are important qualities in a medical professional. I can't say anything at all about the others, but I do appreciate that there's a symposium on this topic. More please!

Live Stream News:

Good news for everyone.  I have contacted one of the organisers and he has told me they will be live streaming the event.  He will send me the link when it is known.  I will then post it here for you all to use.  Hopefully it will be available for viewing after the event as well, perhaps via YouTube?  I will ask.

Best wishes.

Hi everyone

Good news - the live feed link has been sent to me for the Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Symposium on the 16th September 2019 (Arizona time).  I have also been told that after the site has done the live stream it will also be presenting the archived video.  This means we can go and watch it later at our convenience without having to worry about timezone differences.  It appears to be only the afternoon sessions that are being live streamed and recorded.  This was in the message I received which contains the link to the live stream:

The afternoon presentations will be video recorded and broadcast via UA Biomedical Communications (https://streaming.biocom.arizona.edu/event/?id=28977)

These are the details of the live stream:

Benzodiazapine Symposium

WATCH - This event will stream live at 12:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2019.

WHEN - Monday, September 16, 2019  12:00 - 4:30 PM Arizona time.

I was also told that video files will be kept active for 3 years from date of issue, unless prior arrangements are made.

I will also put a similar post on other boards.

Perhaps we can discuss the Symposium after we have had a chance to watch it?

Best wishes to everyone!
