Fresh out of the psych ward and I think I got screwed up pretty bad.

Hello friends, I don't remember if I ever posted here before or not. I just got off the island for misfit toys on Thursday after a two week stay. During that stay, it was decided that I should taper off 10mg valium x2/day and stay on Effexor and start ECT. Well, we took three whole days to taper off the valium and start the ECT.

I had been on Klonopin for about 10 years prior to earlier this year when my regular psychiatrist switched me to an equivalent dose of valium for easier tapering, I don't think he had a three-day taper in mind. After three ECT zaps, I was somehow feeling better so they turned me loose on Friday.

This morning I woke up to a monumental panic/anxiety attack which was quickly turning into scary thoughts of putting an end to this misery. I have 5 and 10mg valiums left so I took a 10mg and eventually things calmed down and I actually got some more sleep and feel somewhat better and less self-destructive right now.

I have an ECT appointment in the morning and intend to bring this episode up in order to get some "professional" input into the situation. I'm not allowed any benzos the night before or the morning of ECT, I know the three-day taper was a joke and it was about 5-6 days from stopping the valium to the meltdown this morning.

I'm just looking for guidance on what I should advocate for tomorrow, I'm just basically at a loss right now.

I don't have a lot to offer here WeTrudgeOn, except to advise advocate strongly on your own behalf about 3 days being far too quick.  And with ect on top.  The two together do not sound ideal to me though I am not a doctor.  Ask them about it.  The combo, that is.

I would take Ashton along (at the very least) in support of your claim.  Hand them some evidence.

Please think I'm totally opposed to ect.  I have read some good reports.  I could be wrong.  Sounds like it did help you.  Sometimes there is no choice.  Is this the case for you?

The thing that comes to my mind is that essentially, you have been ct'd.  Risk of seizure rare, but possible.  What would it mean to add ect to a ct'd cns?

I'm not saying don't do the ect, only saying advocate on your own behalf about 3 days too quick.  Is there any reason why you could still not receive ect and slow taper at same time?

What IS their problem!

Dee

Please research all things "ECT" specifically "ECT Survivors". ECT puts the brain / body into a seizure...years ago psychiatrist tried to convince the public that having a lobotomy was a wonderful procedure.

Where or when does this insane madness end? I also suggest you taking a look at the work of "Peter Bregin" who has a channel on Youtube. Please feel free to private message me...I wish you well my friend.
