I’m hopeful that my memory will come back

I’m so Greatfull that there is support, this is really embarrassing for me. My mind is not what it used to be, my adult child asks me if I remember things and I am so mortified because I didn’t even know that it was the klonopin and I thought I was loosing my mind, I’m only 44!!I can’t even remember when I started taking it but it’s been over 10 years. I was prescribed 2 mg three times a day. At the beginning of the year I was down to one 2 mg tab at bedtime, now I’m just taking 1mg before bed. I am having so many withdrawal symptoms.

My dr moved and her replacement was only willing to give me 30 pills one time. I told her I was supposed to be tapered off but she refused to return my calls! My dr was giving me 90 a month but never said anything about side effects or memory loss. I thought this was safer than antidepressants. I’m wondering if anyone was able to regain memory in time?

Hello Iwantmymemoryback123

Welcome to Benzo Buddies and well done on your taper thus far.  We understand what you are going through, and will be happy to share our experience and knowledge with you.  I also had memory loss, I forgot how to cook and at one point, I couldn’t recall people’s names, even family members. It was a scary symptom, but thankfully temporary. It does get better, but it will take time.  Feel free to post questions to any of the dedicated boards. You will get plenty of support here on your journey to be benzo free.

Generally a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is recommended. You can alter the schedule, whatever feels comfortable,  the aim is to try to keep any symptoms manageable. I'll leave you a link to the General Taper Plans.

You might want to check out the Ashton Manual, it is an excellent resource about these types of drugs. It provides tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

Withdrawal Support  This is an excellent board to connect with members and share benzo withdrawal experiences.

If you would like to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice.  Go to the top of the page and select PROFILE then choose forum profile then insert drug history into the text box and remember to click change profile

Welcome aboard

Magrita
