Now that I've tapered off from Xanax, I have been experiencing a lot of insomnia. I've been using medical cannabis (Indica). I take just a couple of hits and it does help me to relax and after a while, fall asleep. It by no means helps me to sleep throughout the night. I know from experience, if I smoke too much, I get really anxious. Have any of you Benzo Buddies tried medical cannabis? I'm wondering if this is something I should continue or if it might affect my recovery and withdrawal symptoms?

You need high cbd not thc. Good luck

I haven't tried it since I jumped, but I did take some medical cannabis that was high CBD and low THC a few times during my taper and it didn't seem to help at all. If it's helping you that's awesome. I want to try it again after I've had some time off. I jumped on August 16th so for me I think it would be a little too soon to try again. I don't think it hurt me but it didn't help. I wish it would have

I use to smoke it allot but once in benzo wd I couldn’t smoke it at all. It actually makes me burn more and sets off myoclonic jerks in me. I think now days most is to high in thc

Cannabis is cannabis, the term ‘medical cannabis’ refers to how it’s used. Kind of misleading, this term.

 

Having been a recreational/social user for years, I avoided THC completely during the end of my taper and for a number of months afterward.  A couple of hits of an indica, or maybe just one, may help with insomnia for some, but there’s a good chance of paranoia, too.

 

CBD, which is non-psychoactive, IMO is a much better option. Hemp-derived CBD is legal in all states and can be readily purchased and shipped. It can only contain .3% THC max. 

 

CBD from a dispensary, if you’re in a legal state, will have more THC. I would recommend nothing stronger than an 18:1 ratio of CBD:THC during the withdrawal and recovery process.

 

Of course, everyone is different. The above recommendation is for those sensitive or new to cannabis.

I have tried smoking a number of times, but it is often too activating. Instead of getting to sleep, I'll be up at 3am still listening to music or watching videos...

That weed disrupts your REM sleep. So, it isn't really helping you sleep better, it is instead sedating you. That certainly seems to be a worthwhile tradeoff in the short term, especially when you are desperate for sleep, but probably isn't a good long term strategy.

 

I'm bummed because after trying several brands of CBD, I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't do anything for me.

CBD is subtle.  I’ve been to several MMJ weekend seminars and learned that it takes up to two months for CBD to bring inflammation down as best as it’s going to.

 

CBD can help with sleep quality but not, in general, as a nighttime supplement for sleep. It can make you more alert for a few hours after taking it. I’d recommend taking it in the morning or afternoon but not at night. As long as there are no adverse reactions (except to the cost  :sick:) I’d keep taking it for a couple of months before giving up.

 

Just my two cents. About what it’s worth, probably.  ;)

I’d recommend taking it in the morning or afternoon but not at night. As long as there are no adverse reactions (except to the cost  :sick:) I’d keep taking it for a couple of months before giving up.

Yeah, compared to Xanax, most supplements are subtle!  :P

 

I tried it for months and I didn't notice anything. But you could be right, it may just be so subtle that I'm not noticing it amongst all the noise.

Good observation, and could be exactly that.  You wouldn't know unless you stopped taking it for awhile and things amped up.  And even then, you can't be sure what amps things up because everything amps things up.

I have tried it and then stopped and then tried it again. I just don't see any difference. I really wish I did. Very frustrating... It seems like many supplements might be helpful, but they just can't compete with the chaos going on in my brain...  :sick:

Chaos is right.  I tried learning meditation when I was newly off Xanax.  What a joke.  I could barely sit still, much less make my thoughts stop racing.
