Seeking Your Experience

Recommended Posts

Hello my good friends;

I will soon be 75 years old. I joined to have support and encouragement in my journey to be free of the need to use benzodiazepines the rest of my life. I had been taking these CNS depressants for a decade. I have taken in the past lorazepam, alprazolam and midazolam.

I have finished my taper following the process and recommendations outlined in the Ashton Manual and the research findings and medical advice/recommendations made by Professor Malcolm Lader and other noted medical experts around the world.

I want also to share my experience strength and hope. I am a recovered alcoholic. C2H5OH was my drug of choice and I have been sober since April 28, 1998.

I am now ready to continue this spiritual journey which began about 4 months ago on April 20, 2019 with the help of a power greater than myself ~ this Group and my Higher Power. Over the last 4 years I have eliminated 10 prescription medications from my system needed for my recovery from a life-threatening accident and spinal cord injury.

I will add a list of the prescribed medications I eliminated from my system starting on January 1, 2015. I was under the care of a psychiatrist for 14 years from 2002 - 2016. Unfortunately he passed away in 2016 during the beginning of my journey. I still have not found a psychiatrist but just found a new GP after a 5-year search who will add me to his roster. He is a board certified MD and addictionologist. My first appointment is in a few weeks.

Welcome to BenzoBuddies, GABA1945.

Congratulations on many years of sobriety and being benzodiazepine-free. Good to hear you've recovered from a serious injury as well.  Sounds like things are going in the right direction.

Let me give you a link to post either for your own support or to support other members:
