Brain feels stuck

My brain feels stuck in fight and flight mode.  Can't distract because of loud thoughts and panic.  My brain keeps pulling me into daydreams of things I don't want to think about.

First, HI BLUE!!! I miss being able to PM you.

Failure, this is truly a normal part of benzo wd. Your brain IS stuck in flight/fight mode, due to bwd. Benzos work on your Fear Center, so when you go off benzos by any way, severe anxiety and fear take over. All of this can make you sure you have gone insane, but you  have not. It really IS just benzo wd.

It sounds as if you are having intrusive (unwanted) thoughts. Again, quite normal. For some people that symptom can become extremely problematic.

What worked for me after going CT off a ton of benzos and SSRIs was this: distraction!!!! DISTRACTING MYSELF WAS ABSOLUTELY KEY!!!  Learning a few simple skills to help reduce anxiety, such as slow deep "belly breathing."

You say you cant distract but I think you can if you try hard enough. People on BB have come up with lots of novel and interesting ways to distract themselves. I strung TINY little beads for several months. Someone else did coloring books. One fellow had a hefty sisal rope and he spent days on end unravelling it. Anything that gets your mind OFF withdrawal is a good thing, except for watching TV. Most TV is way too energizing, or violent, or some other negative thing.

Please know that what you are feeling is completely normal for bwd. It WILL end, but only when your brain has healed itself.

Hello

I’m following this thread as I have awful anxiety on waking everyday and it just won’t go away! I keep as busy as possible but have this constant anxiety with me. I am sticking to a routine and doing belly breathing, writing down positive things or achievements I have done each day, meditation, listening to The Power of Now, doing the 5,4,3,2,1 thing

5 things you can see

4 things you can hear

3 things you can feel

2 things you can touch

1 thing you can taste

I do this whilst out walking, I take 2-3 short walks a day, I go to the supermarket nearly every day, pretty much anything to keep busy, for some reason that doesn’t include housework ! I just try and be out as much as possible, one of the guys I speak to at the helpline says he had it too and it’s very common in WD even if you had anxiety before benzo’s the WD anxiety is awful but it will pass in time along with everything else.

We have to just ride it out as best we can.

PO
