Electricity

[In...]

Recommended Posts

I can always tell I am not close to healed by the amount of electricity in my feet and tongue.

Yes, I get the electric feeling in my tongue.

Has anyone else had electricity and if so how long did it last for you? Mine has been hanging 18 months with pins and needles in my feet as well.

Indigoblue,

I’m right there with you at 22 months with the same electric feeling in my feet and tongue.  I also experience a strange salty metallic taste in my mouth when my tongue starts to buzz.  At 22 months  it is no longer constant and comes and goes.  I’m beginning to really see a pattern with foods high in histamines! I had a beautiful 3 week “semi”-window when all of my symptoms were very light or gone.  But I was thrown back into it after eating too many foods higher in histamine.  Our systems are so fragile and I just wasn’t ready to let up on my diet restrictions.  I should have waited a few more weeks to introduce new foods.  So I’m back to watching what I eat like a hawk!

I’m noticing a bit of relief already.  Good luck, it will happen soon, we just have to hold on to that fact.

You are the first one I have heard of having the tongue thing as well. Its like its sensory nerve overactivity. When the nerves get even more overactive I don't feel the electricity. The electricity only comes when it settles.

Mine also comes and goes but if I touch anything it sets it off real bad. Meaning chemicals, drugs and even magnesium set it off real bad. Even going to the dentist. I don't even get a shot. I just got a filling and started buzzing.

What happens if you take any meds or if any chemical or substance enters your body?

What happens when you take something does it get worse when it leaves your body? Did you ever have akathisia?

IndigoBlue,

Yikes! Regarding the dentist with no Novocaine! I’ve often thought that the tongue electricity may be from TMJ?  I wear a night guard due to grinding and clenching.  You?

I have experienced big problems with Magnesium!  But, it was after my surgery due to low Mag levels in hospital, they gave me two doses IV without  incident.  My level was so low most likely due to being on omeprazole for a few years and from the stress of the surgery. Once out of the hospital I continued to take chelated Magnesium supplements, and I felt great! Then one day I mistakenly took an extra dose thinking that I had forgotten to take in that morning.  All hell broke loose!  Palpitations, elevated BP and heart rate, sweating, panic! It lasted for about 10 days on and off. ( the half-life of Chelated Mag can be about 30 days)  The doctors blamed it on anxiety!  And they told me to take Ativan! Weeks down the road and into my Benzo nightmare I did some research on cheated mag, I was not surprised this happened to me.  And I believe this is one of the reasons that I had such a bad experience with Ativan in such a short time frame.

The only time I had to take any medications was for a colonoscopy at 4 months after my taper. Was feeling like I was through the worst of the WD leading up to the procedure, but I was terrified to have a setback.  I begged them not to give me any Benzo sedation.  The anesthesiologist promised me that he would only give me as little fentanyl (not a Benzo) as absolutely necessary.  He told me that fentanyl didn’t act on the same receptors and that it should be fine.  I was good for 3 to 4 days and then the WD symptoms started again, bad!  But, I was stupid at that point and thought I was through the nightmare so I ate whatever I wanted! And, it seems now like I chose all the wrong foods.  So, whether it was the fentanyl, not enough time to heal completely, my diet or most likely a combination of all of the above, I had a major setback and have been fighting my way through ever since.

The only other time I took something was a “low histamine probiotic”.  I emptied more than half of the capsule before taking it.  I wouldn’t have messed with anything but after having abdominal surgery for a twisted colon due to adhesions after an appendectomy almost 20 years ago, I knew my gut was not healthy and hoped to improve it to speed my Benzo recovery.  It didn’t work!  It increased my symptoms due to histamine intolerance that many of us have varying degrees of difficulty with.

I have never had problems with akathisia, sorry I’m not able to help with this.

So at this point, I have to wait.  I am keeping the faith that my body and brain want to be healthy and they know what to do to heal!  And so does yours!  I’m sure you’ve noticed the relationship between symptoms getting worse and worrying.  If I meditate, do light yoga and stay calm and positive...My symptoms improve!  They don’t go away, but they definitely are diminished.

I hope that you find some relief soon.  I’m actually certain you will!  I’ve had windows where I feel  like my old self, so I know it is possible.  We’re not damaged permanently!  It just takes time.

Hugs to you! (Btw: I love your screen name, IndigoBlue)

Hi Indigo,

I’m at 24 months off and still have buzzing - not in my tongue but mainly in my legs, then arms and fingers. And also in my head which I believe is why I still have tinnitus.  It’s now in the bummer category vs disabling, but it’s still annoying.
