Does anyone know of anybody that has successfully reinstated after 2yrs? I'm still having sxs yrs offafter only taking meds for 5 months. I really cant deal any longer. Im sick of not being able to exercise like I used to, sick of getting overstimulated, pressure in head, vertigo spells, stomach issues and bp spikes. This is putting a damper on my marriage we're struggling financially due to me  not working. I need some advice here. Back in Jan I felt I was about 90% healed every since April its like everything went down hill. How can I still be struggling from only 5 months of taking 3mg????

I would say keep going you have made it 2 years now. You felt almost healed in April so it’s a wave you are going though. You will feel well again it’s all part of the process. I’m pregnant after benzo withdrawal and it has been a very interesting journey. I was already off benzos for 13 months when I got pregnant, but I had a massive wave in the beginning for a few months. Now I feel almost healed again and feel great. Hang in there I know this journey is not an easy one.

During the recovery our nervous system should be demolished and rebuilt. And it is very painful. If you reinstate everything will be torn down again.

And maybe the healing is behind the corner? And I have read so many stories about this, and it did not work well. So please, please, don't give up!

I personally have experience with kindling. If ur already experiencing these symptoms off of this medication this far out, reinstatement can not only cause these to become amplified but cause an entire array of new symptoms. I took a low dose of alprazolam from 2011-2012 & when I got off had some symptoms but had no idea it was the xanax that had caused them. In 2015 I decided to get back on & within 6-8 month’s I was experiencing a whole new set of symptoms including tolerance withdrawal. Things just continued to go downhill from there & I eventually got so bad that I CT’d bc I refused to take another pill. They started to make me feel worse, not help. Your CNS has already been affected by these drugs & if u decide to reinstate u could b taking a huge risk. I highly suggest u try & find some other healthy way to deal with the lingering issues u have. Trust me when I say if u think things r bad now, they can always get worse. Take care, & all the best.

I agree with the people here. For one thing, the CNS has already been sensitized toward benzos. Having to go through another withdrawal would only sensitize it even more and may even cause kindling.

What I do have hope about is this: Back in Jan I felt I was about 90% healed every since April its like everything went down hill. How can I still be struggling from only 5 months of taking 3mg????

This tells me that there has been lots of healing going on. I know it's hard to keep going amid all the symptoms you're having, but you might well have the very same symptoms the next go-round if you reinstate. I would side definitely with staying with it. No one knows when true healing comes, and you could very well be at a higher baseline once you get through this wave.

CTs do a lot more damage than this form likes to talk about.  I mean who am I to tell people this.  I'm no expert but I would encourage people to Google topics like Excitotoxicity, kainic acid since they are the tip of the iceberg for how bad a CT can be on your brain.  A very slow taper is probably the healthiest thing you can do and dare I say just maybe an even slower taper could be even better but again this all depends on how you feel during your taper, for some it's not a big deal.

I found this in Ashtons manual. I don't know if she is right, or not. But I think that this explanation is pretty logical.  :)

Reinstatement, updosing

This is a difficult situation which, like all benzodiazepine problems, depends to some degree on the circumstances and the individual, and there are no hard and fast rules.

They think that if they go back on benzodiazepines and start over again on a slower schedule they will be more successful. Unfortunately, things are not so simple. For reasons that are not clear, (but perhaps because the original experience of withdrawal has already sensitised the nervous system and heightened the level of anxiety) the original benzodiazepine dose often does not work the second time round. Some may find that only a higher dose partially alleviates their symptoms, and then they still have to go through a long withdrawal process again, which again may not be symptom-free.

Updosing during withdrawal? Some people hit a "sticky patch" during the course of benzodiazepine withdrawal. In many cases, staying on the same dose for a longer period (not more than a few weeks) before resuming the withdrawal schedule allows them to overcome this obstacle. However, increasing the dose until a longed-for plateau of 'stability' arrives is not a good strategy. The truth is that one never 'stabilises' on a given dose of benzodiazepine. The dose may be stable but withdrawal symptoms are not. True recovery cannot really start until the drug is out of the system.

Pharmacologically, neither reinstating nor updosing is really rational. If withdrawal symptoms are still present, it means that the GABA/benzodiazepine receptors have not fully recovered (see above). Further benzodiazepines cause further down-regulation, strengthen the dependence, prolong withdrawal, delay recovery and may lead to protracted symptoms. In general, the longer the person remains on benzodiazepines the more difficult it is to withdraw. On the whole, anyone who remained benzodiazepine-free, or has remained on the same dose, for a number of weeks or months would be ill-advised to start again or to increase dosage. It would be better to devote the brain to solving individual symptoms and to finding sources of advice and support.
