Question regarding klonopin at my dosage

[Wo...]

So I have been prescribed klonopin for roughly 10 years or so (I’m 28).. I have never been big into taking them. My dosage was .25mg to .50 as needed(prescribed for 1mg)  And that was not very often. Over the past 5 weeks or so I've been taking mainly .25mg a day. Sometimes another .25 if i feel I need it. (I have a lot going on right now which is why I have been doing it daily). I know that’s not the right approach, and now i am worrying about withdrawals. I have still been taking klonopin this last week at .25mg a day because I’m traveling a lot and worry.

I’m generally a anxious kind of person and always worrying about health related issues, so little things I start to relate with possible withdrawals. I have noticed my anxiety being slightly elevated(which in turn causes anxiety type feelings) and have had a small headache and feeling weak the last few days, but not sure if that is related. Is this really a situation where I am completely dependent? The pills I am given are always 1mg, I just have always cut them up because of fear of the drug. I was debating on cutting my .25mgs I have pre cut into halves and take .125... should I be to worried about major side effects at this dose. I also ordered a recommended scale to taper down as well, but kind of surprised I’m feeling this way but know it still can be benzo withdrawal or dependency.

Thank you for taking the time to read and any advice is appreciated

If you have been taking K regularly for 10 years, even at varying doses, you almost certainly have established a dependency.  And if your usage has been trending up, then your dependency level likewise increases.

Its very likely the sxs you are experiencing is withdrawal.

  • 2 weeks later...

The K was really used as needed. I would get my .5mg refilled like once a year? It was hardly used. My increased anxiety and insomnia I believe was starting an ssri.. i was living a unhealthy lifestyle (drugs and alcohol on weekends) and decided to start an ssri to help with anxiety and come off klonopin. I have been without the ssri 4 days now after using for 10 days ( probably why my anxiety was elevated). Today is my first day not taking it and I feel generally okay. Was even able to drive around the corner with just a little flair up.  Kinda comes in waves and I think I’m hyper sensitive. I have most this week off and debating on seeing how I am for this week without them . My main concern is seizures. Do you think that will be a problem after 5weeks or so of the .25 a day. Max .50 and only like 3 times mainly during the period during my ssri stage. (I truly believe this impacted me greatly). I believe more of worry is mental than physical at the moment.

Thanks for the response. Again I’m at home so can help with anxiety riddled situations, and have a home gym I plan on doing light cardio to uplift myself. I worry if I start tapering if my symptoms aren’t unmanageable I will keep the drug in my body longer.
