Joining to help with klonopin

I am looking for help with my taper but cannot post or search.

So I have been prescribed klonopin for roughly 10 years or so (I’m 28).. I have never been big into taking them. My dosage was .25mg to .50 as needed. And that was not very often. Over the past 5 weeks or so I've been taking mainly .25mg a day. Sometimes another .25 if i feel I need it. (I have a lot going on right now which is why I have been doing it daily). I know that’s not the right thing to do and now i am worrying about withdrawals. I have still been taking klonopin this last week at .25mg a day because I’m traveling a lot and worry.

I’m generally a anxious kind of person and always worrying about health related issues, so little things I start to relate with possible withdrawals. I have noticed my anxiety being slightly elevated(which in turn causes anxiety type feelings) and have had a small headache the last few days, but not sure if that is related. Is this really a situation where I am completely dependent? The pills I am given are always 1mg, I just have always cut them up because of fear of the drug. I was debating on cutting my .25mgs I have pre cut into halves and take .125... should I be to worried about major side effects at this dose. I can’t imagine cutting it only by 10-20% with that small of a pill

Welcome to BenzoBuddies!  We are glad you decided to join us.  You'll find a lot of support and information on this forum, which is the only one of its kind online.  It's not uncommon to become dependent on benzos used as needed over time.  Tolerance is common as well, especially in long term users.

For those starting a taper, we generally recommend starting out at a rate of 5 to 10% every 10-14 days, then adjusting the taper to suit your own needs.  Note: very short term users may be able to taper faster.

Withdrawal symptoms, which vary widely but commonly include anxiety and insomnia, often occur during a taper and when newly off, but these are temporary and will get better in time.  In general, first tapers are easier, but cold turkeys or multiple withdrawals may be more severe and longer lasting.  Here are a few links to get you started:

The Ashton Manual, a concise reference for tapering and symptom issues.  Chapter III contains excellent descriptions of common symptoms such as muscle issues, anxiety, and hyper-awareness.

Once again, welcome!
