On Zoloft and Ativan

I developed general anxiety disorder several months ago. The doc put me on .5mg Ativan 2X a day then a month later put me on 50 mg Zoloft. I’m not sure when the Zoloft will kick in to handle the anxiety ( currently at 3 weeks on Zoloft) and I want to taper off Ativan as soon as possible. Right now I get pretty nasty interdose withdrawals from the Ativan. Just wondering if anyone else has gone through the Zoloft (or other anti anxiety med) and when did you decide to start the Ativan taper. I’m really not looking forward to it. Thanks in advance.

Years ago when I first was diagnosed with generalized anxiety and then panic attacks, my doctor would put me on SSRIs ( including Zoloft) claiming that they would resiolve that problem. Unfortunately, that never happened for me. The only thing that worked were Benzos, and we know all about them.

 

But, maybe the Zoloft will help you. I was always told that the benefits  from  SSRIs isn’t seen for about 8-10 weeks, sometimes longer.
