Is this even possible?

Hi everyone, this is my first post I'll try to explain what's going on so maybe someone could help me.

About a week and a half ago I was having a major episode of panic and anxiety. I ended up taking 20, 0.25mg klonopin within 5 days.

Which was supposed to last a month.

I don't know what came over me but I was in such a fog I can barely remember that entire time period. I think that the drugs must have effected my decision making and I was so desperate to stop the panic I just went off the rails.

I felt better for the duration of taking the klonopin. After three days without it the anxiety and panic returned more strongly than before. I've been bedridden the past few days because the symptoms are so severe. I'm terrified to contact my doctor because she will find out I've abused my medication. Is it possible that I'm having withdrawals after such a short time period? I never really took the klonopin I was prescribed maybe only once every few months when I really needed it.

The symptoms I'm having are extreme panic, intrusive/obsessive thoughts, constant surges or adrenaline that makes it feel like my blood is on fire, leg twitches, sweating fits, insomnia, feverish nightmares that leave me waking up delirious and confused.

The symptoms don't seem to be going away and I'm so scared I'll be stuck like this forever. I just feel so hopeless and my family is so upset and scared for me.

Is it possible for me to ride this out? Is it even possible for me to be having withdrawal symptoms after 5 days? Or did taking such a huge amount cause brain damage? Could somebody please reassure me because I can't take this any longer it's just unbearable.

I'm no expert by any means, but will try to reassure you.

It's hard to say, but do think you will be able to ride this out.

You were unaccustomed to k then took a huge whack of 20 in just 5 days.  Now, 3 days later you are feeling totally head spun.

As you already had anxiety and panic, it is little wonder to me, that you might be feeling totally angst, freaked out.  But not brain damaged.  :)

This is just my view, I'm no expert, or doctor.

I'd ride it out.

There are heaps better, more efficacious means of dealing with anxiety and panic than taking a pill.  CBT, yoga, relaxation, meditation, going surfing  :)

I'm only learning these things now.  Wish I'd known earlier.

You can do this.

Dee

You have given yourself a real shock. And apart from the lack of benzos now you have the added anxiety of thinking it’ll go on forever.  It shouldn’t —— horrid as it is now.

Could you guess how many Klon you have taken in the last 3 months ? This effects advice we might give.

At any rate, don’t be afraid to come clean with your doctor..

I have found using occasional benzos for situations to be a self fulfilling prophecy of chaos.

Non benzo ways of managing anxiety are numerous as you know and benzo addiction is foul.

Best wishes

Dick

Over the last 3 months I was taking it probably once a week. There have been times that I've taken it everyday for about a month and experienced minor withdrawal symptoms. Last night was the absolute most terrifying experience of my life. But I actually slept and woke up feeling a little better today.

If it was me I would come clean with the Gp and ask for a small supply and show him how you plan to reduce and stop forever!

I don’t have schedule but advise slow reduction.

Other will advise I am sure

So you only took 1mg. per day, 5 days total? Doesn't sound like too much. But it is a reinstatement since 2016? Not quite clear on the dosage. It's of course meant for short term use. A steady dosage for 9 days consecutively or more is to be avoided. That's when it can take hold and not let go. Hopefully your Dr. can get you situated on an even course.
