4th Day Of Holding Alprazolam And AD ~ Still Nauseated

[Se...]

Recommended Posts

I haven’t been stable for months.  I’ve plodded along with the alprazolam taper and Celexa taper.  Four days ago I decided to hold tapering trying to stabilize.  I’m currently at .84mg/day alprazolam and 6mg/day Celexa.  Both are solutions.  Celexa is Rx solution so dosing is accurate and I’m using DLMT for alprazolam.  Alprazolam doses are spread out evenly through the day at regular intervals.  Celexa is dosed at 8:30 a.m. daily.  Is it possible I won’t stabilize if I’m tolerant to both meds?  I’ve also been on clonazepam since mid November.  I take 0.5mg at 8 a.m. and 37.5mg at 10 p.m. I failed to crossover from alprazolam to clonazepam so here I am taking both.  I did drop 1/4 of a tab for the 10 p.m. dose back in January.

I really don’t know where to go from here.  Morning anxiety is absurd.  I wake up startled every morning between 4 and 4:30 with anxiety, paresthesia (severe skin burning) and nausea.  My last dose of alprazolam is at 1:30 a.m. Is it tolerance or inter dose withdrawal or just withdrawal in general.  Will I stabilize in a few more days?

I’d appreciate some insight and/or suggestions.

Thanks.

I have the same issues SEPTGIRL and I don't know the answer.  I think the polypharmacy combo and CNS changes that have been made make things much more complex - also if you are an ultra-rapid metabilizer like myself, it may as well.  Your MIRT could also be giving you problems, hard to say.  So sorry we are going through this hell.  Hang in there.

Mirtazapine is the only thing that seems to help...especially with sleeping. I’m at a low dose 7.5mg.  My script is written for 15mg at bedtime.  Maybe increasing that dose would help offset the Celexa withdrawal since they’re both antidepressants?

I had these symptoms long before mirtazapine.  It’s just so frustrating!  I want to be well again and live my life!

Thanks MomOf7 for your insight.

Hi, sorry to hear that.

I've been in 3/4/5 drug cocktail for several years, my advise: Don't taper more than 1 at the same time. It's worst and confusing.

You can't be sure what is causing what.

Hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like good advice.  I may continue with the Celexa taper in a few days and hold the alprazolam until finished.  This way it may help the anxiety associated with the AD taper.  Doc thinks tapering Celexa 5mg/month is a good taper.  I think that’s too fast.  I may try half.

Thanks psychmed.

Not to scare  you, but I had constant nausea for months and months when I was tapering. It never went away until I made the decision (which I am not recommending to others, I felt I had no choice) to significantly updose due to my son being ill. I just couldn't get rid of the nausea any other way which was leaving me pretty non-functional during a time I needed to be on top of my game. I do think upping remeron could help with some of these symptoms.

Thanks NJstrength for your comment.  I’m definitely not going to up dose as I was very ill and nauseated even on a much higher dose...even before my taper started.

I have slightly increased the mirtazapine to 11.25mg.  I’ll probably work up to the prescribed dose of 15mg at bedtime.  I was trying to be conservative with the dosing. I know it’s definitely helping with sleeping and staying asleep and I’m hoping another small increase to 15mg may help mitigate some of my symptoms.

I'm sorry SeptGirl, usually stabalizing doesn't happen in days, it's closer to months, no one can give you an exact answer because everyone is different.  .  I know that is the last thing you want to hear :(

Tapering 2 things at the same time was pretty hard on your brain and central nervous system.  Time and patience are usually the only things that help.  Please, if you do start tapering again, only do one at a time.  Mary 💜

Thanks Mary!

I’m feeling a bit better after the mini hold.  I’m going by my symptoms to determine dosing.  As I stated, I think mirtazapine is helping more since I slightly increased the dose.  I’m probably going to go up to the prescribed dose of 15mg at bedtime.

Hi MomOf7!  Actually I feel DLMT is much easier and accurate for dosing.  Breaking tablets into smaller and smaller pieces is very tedious and inaccurate for dosing.  I’m not feeling any worse using DLMT so I don’t think it’s an issue.

I know some people have a problem with the transition but I didn’t.  I’ve been moving along with it for more than a month now so any changes I may have encountered are long gone.  It actually takes less effort to make the solution too.  Guesstimating tablet doses was worrisome.  I’m at least confident with the actual dose I’m getting over the day.

I hope you’re settling down with your taper.

I kept my A/D stable and did not taper it at all. I just tapered my benzo. It can take a while to stabilize and tapering two things at once can make it harder.

I had nausea too. All the research I have done says taper the Benzo first. Then after you finish your taper wait 6 months and taper your A/D.

Its a long road but eventually you will get there.

The A/D really helps with depression as its supposed to.
