Hello, Im here to find support on my way to stop taking Alprazolam. I take o.5mg per day about 8 weeks ago. Im aware this is a low dosage,  but Im not feeling well and I want to quit because Im worried for the tolerance and dependency issues. I tried to stop a couple of days ago, and I feel awful. So, I suppose I need to slow down, be prepared and have patience.

Hello Beatrix1!

We are very glad that you found us!

Wise decision to get off of the benzo's. Because you have only been on benzo for 8 weeks it may not be advantageous for you to taper to slowly. Manufacturers suggest short term use 4 weeks max. Get off benzo in a fashion reasonable with the time you were on them and then be patient, symptoms should subside quickly.

I would like to suggest that you do some research on the various boards. Becoming well informed should better enable you to make difficult decisions as well as provide you with the tools you need for a successful taper & recovery.  You will find many knowledgeable members who will support your efforts to be benzo free. I have enclosed a few links below that may help you. Check them out!

Wishing you a smooth taper & speedy recovery!

Welcome  Bella has said hi and given you a great intro...

And how sensible to decide to come off it ASAP

But don’t just jump off it. Look to taper it down as eight weeks will have gotten you used to it.

It’s equivalent to about  8 mg of diazepam. Some folk switch for ease of pill size cutting!

You need to talk to your doctor about coming off it. We cannot give definitive advice.

Best wishes Send one of us a PM if you feel out of your depth.

Dick
