Recommended Posts

Hello-

Ativan prescribed 5 times a day for 6 months (insomnia, anxiety)

Tapered down to 1.5mg but had respitory depression if tried to stabilize or go up

If decreased had interdose withdrawals of constant vomiting

Rapid detox at facility....ugh

Ativan to librium for 6 days then jump

So.....

6 weeks from stopping Ativan/librium

4 weeks from stinking antipsychotics for sleep 1 week(dystonia neck!)

And 2.5 weeks from Lunesta! 9 dys(They gave me z drug!!! Told me it was ok because not a benzo)

Feel like my CNS is screwed! Have a whole host of symptoms so debilitating can't function normal.

Hoping to find hope here that this isn't forever.....

Hello SouthernBelle08,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! Ativan 5 times a day is a lot of ativan, and detox is just another way of saying 'cold turkey'. I'm sorry you had to go through this.  You are very early off benzos as well as other drugs. Right now you are in what is called the 'acute' period of withdrawal where the symptoms can be the strongest. I know exactly how a cold turkey feels, having experienced it myself.  The good thing is that with time these symptoms will ease up. Right now your central nervous system is in a state of high alert, after having so many medications taken away very quickly.

We do have a dedicated board for those who have undergone a cold turkey, detox or rapid withdrawal. I'll give you a link to that board so you can communicate with others in the same situation as yourself.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. While it discusses tapering in detail, it also gives good information about the withdrawal process in general. The manual was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

We understand what you are going through. You'll receive a lot of support and encouragement from our members.  This process can be challenging for some of us but time will allow your cns to find balance again. Please do ask questions, we're here to help.

SouthernBelle,

A warm welcome to you. Thought I'd let you know that I was poly-drugged in a similar manner before I tapered off Ativan. In hindsight, I probably came off a bit fast as well.

But, it gets better! Healing can feel slow - but take heart that struggling to function at your stage of withdrawal is the norm (fast taper or not). You'll definitely heal. Just try not to take any more meds.

Take good care,

Wildflower

SouthernBelle08, welcome to BB. Yeah, many of these psych drugs are bad news. I have always refused to take the AP's. I have take mostly benzos and a few ssri's.
