Hi, my name is Justin and what I'm going through feels like hell.

To start, my xanax use started about 7 years ago (this is the earliest I can remember). I started as a recreational user (how I wish I could tell my younger self to never touch that pill).

It started with using a .5 MG then gradually increased to a 2 MG bar then finally peaked at 4-6 MG a day for the last year.

Recently I realized that enough was enough. I wasn't going to let a pill control my life.

I started tapering off with Klonopin about 2 weeks ago for 7 days.

Undersupervision at a center it went from:

Day 1: 2 10 MG  in the morning and at night

Day 2: 2 10 MG  in the morning and at night

Day 3: 2 5 MG  in the morning and at night

Day 4: 2 5 MG  in the morning and at night

Day 5:  2 5 MG in the morning and at night

Day 6:  1 5 MG in the morning

Day 7: 1 5 MG in the morning

After this I really believed this was the end. I would never need a pill again. Boy was I so completely and utterly mistaken. After getting home day 1 felt fine. It wasn't until day 2 that I felt like everything was over.

I knew this was going to be hell. I've had EXTREME anxiety, blurred vision, nausea, panic attacks, depression, clouded thinking, and lose of hope. I just want this to be over but I know it's going to be a journey (to put it extremely mildly, and I have some hope....

Any advice would be much appreciated.

(Sorry if my thoughts are so scattered, my brain feels extremely cloudy, I have so much more to say but don't know how to put it in words right now)

Hello justinicandoit  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

We are very glad you joined our community. You have made a great decision to taper off these drugs. Slow is the way to go, don’t rush it!    We can help you with support, encouragement and taper/withdrawal information.  In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  It’s okay to go slower than this, whatever feels comfortable, the aim is to try to keep symptoms manageable.

I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

I'll leave you a few links:

This is what the doctor's orders were under supervision.

Do you think I did it too fast? What if I'm unable to take any at all next month for about 3 months?

Sigh.... I hope this gets better...

Can you find another doctor? I was at 5mg of klonopin daily. My newest shrink said he would help, but that I was "fortunate" because most doctors would send me to a detox center or simply refuse me as a patient.

I have managed to get to 3mg in 5 months, so to put it point blank, I think you were tapered too fast.

With that being said, if you can manage the symptoms albeit how horrible they are, (I know, cause this is my second attempt to get off klonopin) try to hang in there.

Unless you feel in serious danger.

I had to reinstate after my first attempt, if I could go back and tell old me, just hang in there, these symptoms will pass, I would have never reinstated and never gotten to such a high dose of K daily.

We here know the hell you are experiencing. A slow taper might be less of an impact but I swear, every time I taper I feel what you're describing and more.

But also, if you must reinstate, I'd find a doctor that will help you taper at a slower rate.

My thoughts are with you and I really do hope you can get through this.

Hi Justin,

I took Xanax on and off for a couple of years then full time for a year. I tried to taper off slowly unsupervised and it was brutal. I ended up going to a new dr and was put on Klonopin and it made no difference to the Xanax WD. I think I was only on it for a couple of weeks and was switched to Valium. Valium WDs, whilst crappy, for me are not as bad as they are for Xanax.
