Hi Everyone,

 

I am new to BenzoBuddies. I've been prescribed ativan, xanaz and klonopin alternatingly for almost a decade and finally am seeing a new psychiatrist who is helping me to taper off. This is my second week taking 1.5mg klonopin instead of 2mg (split up in .5mg doses) and the symptoms are starting to hit me hard. I'm also cutting back on alcohol use to almost none. I have multiple chronic illnesses and it took me a bit to realize where this awful headache was coming from. I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

We are glad you joined our community, you will get plenty of support here. It sounds like you are tapering too fast, benzodiazepines should be tapered slow and careful.  The rule of thumb is to reduce the daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  It’s okay to go slower than this, whatever feels comfortable, the aim is to try to keep symptoms manageable.

 

I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms 

 

You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

Thanks so much for letting me know. I did see that in my perusal of the forums... My psych NP told me that the norm is 25% for first two weeks then 10% after that, which I have seen in some lit, but also see why it sucks!! Are there any forums for people who are decreasing alcohol intake simultaneously?
