I am a little past 2 years of having taken Ativan. One is the things that I still experience is sensitivities to food. I think they’ve even gotten worse.

The depression has been gone for awhile now, apart from being upset over this happening.

Last Tuesday I woke up and awhile after being up started feeling depressed again. I am still not feeling like I was. I am wondering if it could be an ingredient in this toothpaste I just started using. Tom’s. It has xylitol and carrageenan in it. Has anyone else had an experience like this?  Usually when I eat something it only lasts for a few hours.

Thank you.

Hi

I am not a great believer in chemical triggers for depression though many folk are.

What I do know is that I can go months feeling “ok” in spite of my situation and then the least little thing flicks a switch and I go into a very dark place. Sadly that’s how I ended up on endless antidepressant meds where talking and support might have been the key.

I hope you feel better soon

Well depression, I believe, can be triggered from a chemical brain imbalance. However thoughts and feelings are two different things that are interrelated and can contribute for our own perspectives or reactions towards our circumstances. I also believe that many people after benzos end up with a somewhat different CNS, meaning a more sensitive one to food allergies, other chemicals, environments, life situations, etc. Who knows what has happened to our gaba receptors or serotonin receptors or other receptors. Some people develop intolerance to things that were able to take without problems before like meds, aspartame, etc and other just not...like me. We are constantly changing and need to learn how to learn our new bodies; expecting that we will be like before when we felt 'normal' is unrealistic. So, with this new developments one needs to make adjustments and lay off everything that makes us feel sick or strange and maybe reintroduce them later. I cannot still do alcohol still, for example. It could be that you have developed sensitivities to various chemicals in different products. Some people with more severe sensitivities have tried the DNRS program and say it has worked wonders for them.

The way Solyluna explains it is really relpful and certainly allows for CNS triggers and sensitization!

I don't think my post was very helpful-sorry-I am glad she has highlighted our vulnerability to things that can effect us.

Certainly alcohol and other prescribed meds can cause chaos. My apols Needsomeonetotalkto.

Best wishes
