Ativan withdrawal help needed.

I am Kate, a 40 year old bipolar patient. I was recently taken off of Ativan after nightly use for sleep. I was put on a different medication to regulate my mood and sleep. The Ativan withdrawal has been very rough for over two weeks now. The thing bothering me the most at this point is bladder related. I have pressure in my pelvis and feel a very strong sensation like I need to urinate. It’s just not getting better. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and help would be life changing at this time.

Welcome to BenzoBuddies!  We are glad you decided to join us.  You'll find a lot of support and information on this forum, which is the only one of its kind online.  I'm sorry you this happened - it sounds like you didn't get to taper.  That is unfortunate, and the kind of symptom you describe is common.  Please read the Ashton Manual on symptoms, some of which can be very weird.  Link is below.

For those starting a taper, we generally recommend starting out at a rate of 5 to 10% every 10-14 days, then adjusting the taper to suit your own needs.  Note: very short term users may be able to taper faster.

Withdrawal symptoms, which vary widely but commonly include anxiety and insomnia, often occur during a taper, but these are temporary and will get better in time.  In general, first tapers are easier, but cold turkeys or multiple withdrawals may be more severe and longer lasting.  Here are a few links to get you started:

Hello and welcome! Sorry, I can't help with your problem at the moment. But please don't define yourself "a bipolar patient", you are a beautiful person instead! Our definitions of ourselves attach to our subconscius and conditionate us.

My bladder was very very weak during withdrawal.  Many times I would wake up suddenly and not make it to the restroom.  After weaning off Ativan I have no bladder problems at all.  Hang in there!
