My Story

Recommended Posts

I was prescribed Klonopin to help get me through an adverse reaction to another psych drug. I am taking 1.5mg per day since January, and I have not yet started my taper. I didn’t know at the time that benzos are not supposed to be taken for months as my doctor told me it would be okay. I have been through AD withdrawals in the past, so I am looking for support while coming off the Klonopin.

Hello  skyleeanne!

We are very glad that you found us!

Wise decision to get off of the benzo. Many folks have found that doing a symptom based taper reducing 5 - 10% every 10 - 14 days and holding when necessary produces manageable symptoms.

I would like to suggest that you do some research on the various boards. Becoming well informed should better enable you to make difficult decisions as well as provide you with the tools you need for a successful taper & recovery.  You will find many knowledgeable members who will support your efforts to be benzo free. I have enclosed a few links below that may help you. Check them out!

Wishing you a smooth taper & speedy recovery!

Welcome and good luck

That is about 20 Mg of diazepam.

Some folk switch over slowly as explained in the Ashton Manual, many just do cuts or liquid tapering.

Then main thing in my opinion is to take it slowly and don’t feel bad about the occasional “hold” in a stable state.

Coming of benzos is emotionally and physically tiring BUT  also satisfying!

Best wishes

Dick
