Anyone seen a neurologist during your taper?

Hi everyone,

My family has been helping me quite a bit while I'm going through my taper and the symptoms that come with it. They are really wanting me to see a neurologist but I don't know if there would really be any benefit to it. Have any of you been to a neurologist, and how did it go for you? Thanks!

Tom

I went to a neurologist and said I was experiencing Ativan withdrawal. She completely denied it. She said that withdrawal lasts only 2 weeks and the medication was out of my system. She said that I was simply experiencing anxiety and recommended that I take medication for it. It's truly horrifying how ignorant some doctors can be! I hope you have better luck.

It was a neurologist that put me in this garbage after a fall I developed neuropathy and hand tremors. He is in complete denial said I’d be on the medication the rest of my life

Yes I went

He looked at my meds and said “no wonder you fall over” and referred me to a psychiatrist specialising in addiction.

He said “ I hope you didn’t drive today”

So slowly am reducing and I don’t fall over in the night and my Parkinson’s like gait has gone.

Worth a trip I guess?

Yes, 2 neuros who are the only ones who have any idea about WD but then say functional neurological disorder. But now been diagnosed with spasticity and dystonia and have just had first Botox shots to see if that will help so can try once again to get off Benzos.

yeah i went back in sept and oct.

I was on epilepsy medication for 3 years but I never had that many seizures. I have begged doctors for years to help me get off this medication but they ignored me and told they would not help.

So last summer I started having trouble/symptoms which I will assume was caused by long term use of this medication. I finally found a neuro that would help me taper. I had no idea at the time about WD symptoms or how fast a person should taper. The doctor pulled me off 80 percent the medication I was on for 30 years in a matter of 4-5 weeks. It just about killed me.

So I thought there was something wrong with me. I went back and had MRI and of course they wanted me to do another in 6 months.

I did some research and found out that it was withdrawal. and it lead me here.

so yeah I have been a neuro a few times since I started tapering.
