I was recommended by a friend to join this site.  I am currently taper off clonazepam and having a very difficult time.

I have been taking the clonazepam for less than 5 years about 3 years to the best of my memory.

I have an illness called ME/CFS and was hit by a drunk driver about 3 1/2 years ago which caused my illness to become full blown and also had a traumatic brain injury with post concussive syndrome.  From very bad headaches and lack of sleep the doctor put me on clonazepam.

I have cut my usage from 4 times a day to 2 times or less a day.  Now I am in benzo withdrawal and need support in getting through this very difficult time.

I plan on doing a very slow taper from this point on.

I just need people who understand how difficult this is and can be there for me.

Thanks for being here!

Hello, Amandal415 — welcome to BenzoBuddies!

So sorry that you’re now having to deal with benzo withdrawal on top of ME/CFS and a TBI. Believe it or not, you’ll meet others here in similar situations.

Luckily, at least the awful symptoms from the benzos will begin to fade as you get off the clonazepam and begin your recovery.

I'm glad that you decided to join the forum. Our members have gone through benzodiazepine use and withdrawal themselves, so you'll find plenty of information and support here.

Here are a few links that may be a good starting place for you:

  General Taper Plans

  Titration Taper Plans

  Withdrawal Support

Please take a moment to Create a Signature — you can enter your pertinent drug and taper history in the box at the bottom. This will allow members to see where you are in the process, so that they can better support you.

Looking forward to seeing you on the forum!

The Ashton Manual provides information that can be useful during any stage of withdrawal and recovery, and includes a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days, although some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Amanda, welcome to bb.  I am so sorry to hear all that has happened to you and now benzo withdrawals.  I can't imagine.  There are a lot of experienced people here that are more than willing to help you come up with a slow taper and support you.  I need you to do me a favor, go back to the moderators post and click on the signature link.  That will take you to a place to put in your drug history so we can see the whole picture, remember to click update.  The other links have great information for you to read.  There are quite a few ways to taper, you can read them over and decide which one suits you best.  IMO, a daily liquid micro taper, is the best.  It gives you a lot of control over the amount you taper and any opportunities to slow down or speed up, depending on how you are feeling  :). Welcome again to bb, please fill out the signature link.  Love, Mary ♥️
